E-mail Notifications Stopped Working

  • I just uninstalled the openmediavault-flashmemory 7.0.1 plugin to test my suspicion that it was causing the mail to not work properly and immediately received the test notification that I sent over an hour ago, at the beginning of our conversation...

That is the same behavior I have seen.

So far, I think you are only the second person to report to having the same problem I have had with this.

  • I have the same issue. Email notifications stop sending after a while.

After uninstalling the "Flashmemory" plugin all my missed emails came through.

  • The saga mystery continues.

  • After reading through this thread, I realized that I'm having the same issue on my two RPi OMV installs. gderf Did you create thread about the issue with the flashmemory plugin by any chance? I suppose that an alternative is to use log2ram rather than the flashmemory plugin. That's what I use on my RPi Pi-holes.

There are a few threads. I don't know why postfix doesn't start. So, I rewrote the flashmemory plugin to use zram-config which doesn't copy files on startup - it uses overlayfs. gderf's system still doesn't start postfix. I don't have problems on my five systems using it though. Since I can't reproduce it and no one has been able to figure out what the problem is, I can't fix it.

folder2ram that the flashmemory plugin currently uses was the motivation to write folder2ram. If it isn't having the issue, it is most likely it isn't moving the folder to ram that is causing the problem.

I suppose that's better than nothing.

I wouldn't use an sd card with OMV with just that.

I don't remember if I created a thread or not, but I did participate in one or more about it.

I changed the zram-config unit file to start after postfix in the latest version of the plugin (not in the repo - in the testing download location). Maybe that would help on these problematic systems.

  • Hi!

I just installed the test version of the plugin as you recommended, but unfortunately it didn't work...

The command journalctl -u postfix@-.service returns the following errors again:

    omv 7.7.1-2 (Sandworm) | 64 bit | kernel 6.12.12+bpo-amd64

    plugins : backup 7.1.4 | compose 7.4.2 | cputemp 7.0.2 | flashmemory 7.1.0-2 | ftp 7.0-5 | omvextrasorg 7.0.2 | onedrive 7.1.4-3 | remotemount 7.0.2 | sftp 7.0.3 | sharerootfs 7.0-1 |

The proxymap error seems strange to me. But I think removing /var/spool from the plugin might help these issues while not increasing write that much. I just uploaded a new version of the plugin if you want to try it.

  • Funny how faith seems to work: I've been having similar issues on my recently installed omv with the flash plugin where mail stopped being sent and some other funky things. Found a topic with a lot of commands to do with the email component, didn't feel like trying that, so went for the next best thing: folder2ram on sourceforge... And would you look at that, new version 4.0.1 "might" have at least fixed the email component... Others, tbd...

Thank you for trying to solve this problem. So I installed a new test version of the plugin, but unfortunately that didn't help either. Now I get this:

    omv 7.7.1-2 (Sandworm) | 64 bit | kernel 6.12.12+bpo-amd64

    plugins : backup 7.1.4 | compose 7.4.2 | cputemp 7.0.2 | flashmemory 7.1.0-2 | ftp 7.0-5 | omvextrasorg 7.0.2 | onedrive 7.1.4-3 | remotemount 7.0.2 | sftp 7.0.3 | sharerootfs 7.0-1 |

I don't know why your system is trying to use proxymap. Do you have a backup to revert to? Seems like something in postfix is broken now. postfix is not one of my strong areas.

    omv 7.7.1-2 (Sandworm) | 64 bit | kernel 6.12.12+bpo-amd64

    plugins : backup 7.1.4 | compose 7.4.2 | cputemp 7.0.2 | flashmemory 7.1.0-2 | ftp 7.0-5 | omvextrasorg 7.0.2 | onedrive 7.1.4-3 | remotemount 7.0.2 | sftp 7.0.3 | sharerootfs 7.0-1 |

So it is working again? If you download the package again, I am curious if it works without /var/spool now. If you don't want to break things again, i understand.
