Cannot install libcups2 2.4.2-3+deb12u8 package on OpenMediaVault

  • Hello, I would like to report a bug where I cannot install the libcups2 package on OpenMediaVault after multiple attempts. All my other packages can update. I emailed the Debian Printing Team as they are associated with the package, and also tried to make an issue on GitHub on the CUPS (common unix print system) repo, where a developer told me that they are upstream and don't deal with packaging, so they can't fix it. https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups/issues/1074. I was about to report the issue in the OpenMediaVault GitHub, but the issue instructions say only to report an issue when advised by a moderator in the OpenMediaVault forum.

    I get an error 500 internal server error, when trying to install the libcups2 2.4.2-3+deb12u8 package. I am running

    • OS: OpenMediaVault version 7.4.9-1 (Sandworm). Linux Kernel: 6.6.47+rpt-rpi-2712
    • OpenMediaVault Admin Dashboard
    • CUPS: libcups2 2.4.2-3+deb12u8
    • Official Post

    was about to report the issue in the OpenMediaVault GitHub, but the issue instructions say only to report an issue when advised by a moderator in the OpenMediaVault forum.

    It is good to post here instead because this is not a bug in OMV. You are installing package outside of OMV. When you update packages in OMV, it is just running apt-get dist-upgrade.

    I have the package installed on my system without issue.

    # dpkg -l | grep cups

    ii libcups2:amd64 2.4.2-3+deb12u8

    What is the output of:

    sudo omv-aptclean

    dpkg -l | grep cups

    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

    omv 7.4.10-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.14 | compose 7.2.14 | k8s 7.3.1-1 | cputemp 7.0.2 | mergerfs 7.0.5 | scripts 7.0.9

    Please don't PM for support... Too many PMs!

  • Hello, I updated the packages again. This time they all installed properly. I then ran your commands by SSH into the OMV computer, and restarted the NAS. I had to update some new packages and restart and now I think the system is fully up to date. Thank you. I couldn't really catch the output the commands made earlier, my terminal went weird so I stopped it.
