At the moment there is no clean solution you are asking for. There are several threads on the forum related to this, do a search.

There is no reason to apologize, your question was legitimate. I just think that as long as Volker doesn't change his mind this issue will continue as it is, at least in OMV. There could be some unofficial solution but that thread you mention is the closest I have read.

IMPROVEMENT: More flexible notification system

I want to try to move away from email notifications, and I've just realised that there's no way to set up alternative notification systems WITHOUT email notifications.

I'd like to suggest that the notification system be re-imagined to allow the adding of a set of "profiles" which could be redirected to any service based on specific criteria (e.g. integrate something like https://github.com/caronc/apprise).

For example:

I want all messages to be sent to Slack on #channel1
I want WARN messages to be…

Wouldn't it simply be enough to contribute code that implements the configuration of the messages for APT? I never said that I don't want to see this functionality in OMV.

Unfortunately, that makes me very sad. This post makes me even sadder. Is it better to fork a project before submitting even one line of code as a contribution?

But the whole thing is honestly no longer necessary. I have finished my experiment to see how long it takes for the OMV community to contribute code to add this functionality. Unfortunately the experiment failed as absolutely nothing came from the community.

I've had the code lying around for a while and today I started to adapt it for the next version... Even before I saw this post here.

Notifying people to update their systems was desired. There are a handful of people who don't like email evidently and want little to no email. Of course those people are the most vocal about it. For the rest of the people, these notifications are helpful and doing their job.

The license is GPL. It doesn't need to be changed. I don't know what Nabu Casa is but who is going to pay a commercial developer? I don't what kind of donations Volker gets but the donations barely cover the hosting and SD cards I buy for testing systems. For the number of hours put in, I am probably making a couple of pennies per hour but I am not doing it for the money. Still my time and Volker's is limited.

Unless you are working on something for a part or full time job, bringing in more money doesn't give you more time to work on things.
