smartctl error output - correct ?

  • Hello, I have problem with completely new Nvme disk KC3000 2TB.
I bought this disk as it has good performance and reviews - I wanted to use it as main storage for frequently used DATA like photos.

During booting the system, I got notification from omv smartd about error on this disk:

What is strange, this message only appears after boot (as I observed) and always after boot quantity of errors increase by 2

I use this disk in Pcie adapter because my motherboard doesn't have such slot, but I've tried 2 adapters and result was the same.

Should I worry about it and store data somewhere else? And send this disk on guarantee?

How can I check it more in details what is causing those errors?

Below about from my smartctl -a for this disk:

  • thanks for suggestion! it looks like I'm lazy and asking for stupid questions, but believe, I've tried to search information by myself, even tried to ask chatgpt for suggestion, but without result. What is strange, because normally I'm quite good in research (or I thought so :D ). What's interesting, after Your post indeed I found in google topic about this issue. Maybe sometimes just fresh view of situation is needed.

I installed nvme-cli and check as You suggested, output is below:

  • I just searched on "smartctl nvme error log". It seems to be fairly common question amongst users to which the likely answer is it can be just smart queries not supported by the drive, whereas non-zero "media and data integrity" error counts are of concern.

  • Thanks for sharing Your opninion!

I need to dive more in deep to check how those errors can be switched off, to avoid false reports.

While in my disk I have:

    Code
Media and Data Integrity Errors: 0
    Error Information Log Entries: 198

So most important errors are 0, it looks I can sleep calm.
