S.M.A.R.T Device is being used outside design parameters

  • Hello fellow OMV users,

I have a Crucial MX300 that is being in my server, used as a storage location for a couple simple databases and other programs.

As the data isn't crucial, it isn't in a raid, but connected to my Dell H200 in IT mode.

The disk has been saying the statement "S.M.A.R.T Device is being used outside design parameters.

Despite this, I can't seem to find anything peculiar; then again, I've only really used HDDs before for this purpose, so it's hard for me to say.

I've posted a screenshot of the SMART output, but I cant seem to find anything myself.

The disk is currently 25C so it should be plenty cool.

Your insights would be greatly helpful,

    Thank you!

  • Very difficult to read screenshot. It would be better if you copied the text output from:

A backup strategy is worthless unless you have a verified to work by testing restore strategy.

  • It seems that your hard drive has the same "Reported_Uncorrect" error as mine. OMV can detect the issue, while CrystalDiskInfo on Windows 10 shows the status as "Good". However, Victoria reports it as "Unideal" and indicates "Uncorrectable ECC Errors." I also noticed that the value for "Hardware ECC recovered" is quite high. Despite this, the data on the hard drive seems to be intact. For safety reasons, it’s not recommended to store important data on it.

    500W ATX PSU | APC BK650-CH UPS

  • Hardware ECC errors can often be attributed to a loose or faulty data cable.
