No video signal or anything after Booting

  • Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Mac Mini from late 2012 and installed OMV 7 on it. Everything worked fine. Then I tried to partition the hard drive, and after that, it wouldn't start anymore. Now I don't get a video signal, and none of the usual key combinations to get into a boot menu or anything like that work. Remote access via SSH or the OMV web interface is also not working. The small light on the Mac Mini is on and you can hear the hard drive very quietly. There is also no important data on the hard drive, so it can be formatted.

    Thanks for any help.

    Approved the thread.
  • If you attempt to partition the hard drive that OMV is installed to you will destroy the OMV installation. Is this what you are doing? If not be more clear about what it is you are doing.

    OMV AMD64 7.x on headless Chenbro NR12000 1U 1x 8m Quad Core E3-1220 3.1GHz 32GB ECC RAM.

  • yes, that's exactly what I tried... I tried to reinstall OMV, but I can't get into the boot menu anymore or I don't get a video signal at all. One time I had the grub rescue, but only for 5 seconds. After that, grub rescue ended immediately and I was trapped in the black screen again.

Is there anything i can try?

  • If you have another disk try installing to it. Other than that I have no suggestions.

Have you tried booting the mac while holding the option key? This should start with the mac boot options screen. If this works, then you can do the same again but with a usb stick with omv image and then select this to start the OMV install from the USB.

Yes, i have tryed it multiple times, but still no video signal. I tryed to reset NVRAM too and it doesent work.

I have no idear why i cant even start in the mac boot screen. I mean the Startup sound is there, and the LED is on but i dont get any video signal.

    Added the Label resolved
  • i have fixed the Problem, by connecting the System drive to another PC and wiping it completely and reinstall OMV.

What reason did you have for trying to change the hard drive partitions after the first successful install? If you want/need to use the drive you installed OMV on for "shared folders" there's a plugin which allows this: openmediavault-sharerootfs
