test new version of flashmemory plugin using zram

    • Official Post

7.1.0-2 is in the testing location. zram-config doesn't handle changing the compression algorithm very well though. So, I would uninstall the plugin and reboot before installing the latest test version

    sudo apt-get purge openmediavault-flashmemory

    sudo reboot

    sudo wget https://omv-extras.org/testing/openmediavault-flashmemory_7.1.0-2_all.deb

    sudo dpkg -i openmediavault-flashmemory_7.1.0-2_all.deb

If you want to upgrade to the latest version, then you should follow those directions. If you are running an older version of 7.1, it will never be in the repo and you will need to upgrade at some point. If no one installs it, it won't be very well tested either.

  • The purge command failed for me see output below. What's the best way forward?

    What's the best way forward?

Reboot. Uninstall again. The continue with the steps.

I think I might have to look at modifying zram-config. It seems the mount options it uses move to mounting things readonly too quickly.

I think the first failure was a saltstack cache issue. The second install cleared. Your screenshot looks normal.

  • I've been using the test version for some time now.

It was installed after removing (purging) the "normal" version.

I went to the GUI and disabled the "swap" since I don't use it (never did on the Pis/CM4 nor on the amd64)

All seems to run great but there's something that's "bugging" me:

When clicking "Sync all" with the "normal" version, it would give info on the folders that it was syncing to disk.

With this version, it only shows a "End of Line" without any output of what was synced.

    Is this by design?

Also, the "normal" version also had a command on CLI (if wanted) while this "test" version doesn't:
    folder2ram --syncall

Is there any different command that does the same on CLI?

I believe the command is: /usr/sbin/zram-config sync

A backup strategy is worthless unless you have a verified to work by testing restore strategy.

The command doesn't output anything when it works successfully.

It is listed in the first post of this thread and gderf is correct.

    Ups....

Should have re-read the OP :D

    Thanks

    P.S

In case you need some info on how it's behaving (testing), just ask for outputs.

If no one installs it, it won't be very well tested either.

Until now, the only difference I have that didn't happened with the "normal" version although I only started receiving it after I upgraded the BIOS and had to fix my grub install, is a monit notification about nginx not ready on boot sent to my email (along with the emails of fail2ban start jails)

Since there were other factors than are in play (the BIOS update, the grub fix and the fact that I now run pve kernel) I haven't tried nothing to see if it clears.

And also because after a while (around 3 minutes after (re)boot beep sound) OMV GUI is up so, the nginx proccess is UP again which I can accept as normal boot time.

  • Some more info on this:

Just checked the logs and I see some error on it when clicking the "Sync all" button

The log from fresh boot shows the following:

    After clicking the Sync button:

    Does this look correct?

Looks like mine. I will have to look into whether the files are syncing and how to fix it when I have time. That might not be for a while.
