OMV 6.x gives errors when trying to modify user permissions

A few years back, I managed to install OMV 6.x on a WD My Cloud Home following fox_exe's instructions to replace the appalling WD-issued OS. Process was clunky, but It sort of works, there's an unauthenticated Samba server running and two shared folders, plus NFS. I didn't experiment with it too much, but looking back, perhaps a complete and proper reinstall would be the way to do. Unfortunately, this would also mean the data partition has to be erased (or it was, back in the day), which is an absolute no-go.

The unauthenticated Samba server itself is an issue: when I borrow a computer from the library, the enforced GPO refuses connection to any guest-accessible Samba server. As I use this MCH for quick-and-dirty file exchange between computers, I can't use it in this context.

So I'd like to put those all shared folders behind an authentication.

I tried to modify user permissions for a user I created previously, but always encounter a non-specific Error 500 trying to apply the settings.

Where can I find more detailed logs?
