Unable to login after backup restore

  • The first command fails with a huge error again.

omv-regen throws "command not found" right after its installation.

Give me a few days to consider my next steps.

Will probably lead me to a new installation, the system seems pretty damaged.

Not the best initial position to face problems in the future.

Mostly unsatisfying because I didn't do anything outside of the omv GUI after its installation.

Thank you so far for your great support!

The problem you had from the update would've been easier to recover from.

I would say it is bad luck. I recommend having an offline backup using clonezilla. Online backups while rarely problematic, aren't the best way to backup a system. I can't explain why both of your backups were bad. This is why we test backups at work. We need to know if the backups are working before a time of crisis.

I'm sure it is fixable but I can't do it exchanging forum posts. It takes me less time for you to reinstall to fix though.

And for those who might say it is ridiculous for OMV to have this kind of bug/error/failure/whatever, I have seen this many times on Windows.

  • Well, we all know how problems like these itch and how hard it is to leave them for some time to consider.

Long story short, I reinstalled the system from scratch and 7.5.0-1 is running smoothly.

    One question is left:

I remembered why I did not just install the official OMV image years ago: my Raspberry Pi 4B doesn't even boot with it.

In contrast to that, installing Raspberry Pi OS Lite 64bit first and then running the install script mentioned above works just fine.

Is that a known issue? I'm curious about this with a very common piece of hardware for this image.

Finally, I want to thank you for your help and patience.

I know that fixing complex problems is nearly impossible if you exchange messages like we did instead of being able to access the console yourself.

Because the OMV "image" ( or ISO) is for x86_64 devices only.
