Activate hardware acceleration for Jellyfin (Docker)

I am using the current version 7.5.2 of OMV and have Jellyfin running in docker. Now I would like to activate hardware acceleration for Jellyfin.

As described in the Jellyfin documentation, I have to link the device /dev/dri/renderD128 in the docker-compose file.

Unfortunately, I have the problem that /dev/dri/renderD128 does not exist on my system.

I am using an AMD processor with integrated graphics processor, see below.

Any ideas why /dev/dri/renderD128 is missing?

Version 7.5.2-1 (Sandworm)

Processor AMD Athlon 3000G with Radeon Vega Graphics

Kernel Linux 6.1.0-30-amd64

id render

thank you for your replay.

I run the following commands on the host (Debian / OMV) and not inside the Jellyfin Docker container because my problem is that on the host (Debian / OMV) /dev/dri/renderD128 is missing not inside the Docker!

My understanding of the Jellyfin documentation is that to enable hardware acceleration, /dev/dri/renderD128 must be linked into the docker container

Output of:

ls -al /dev/dri is ls: Zugriff auf '/dev/dri' nicht möglich: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden (not possible or not available)

I have not yet activated hardware acceleration in the docker compose file, as the required hardware acceleration is missing on the host (IMHO). I have also considered whether it is because OMV is run headless and the graphics card is not activated when the PC is booted.

user: 1000:1000 perhaps must be user: 1000:100

eg: gid=100(users) = default group for shared folders like video or fotos

PD: Not related to your actual question about acelerated on jellyfin

You are using the official container.

I think it's better if you use the linuxserver container since it's easier to configure and they cover all aspects of all architectures.

It's strange that you don't have the /dev/dri on the system.

Jellyfin from linuxserver need the /dev/dri too.
I have to solve my problem first!

I know.

But the docker mods from them, install needed files on container deploy.

This fixes Intel issue with kernel <=6.1, for eg.

You do what you want. I'm just a messenger.

I don't have AMD devices so, take it as you like.

Remember to have a proper working clone of the OS drive before attempting to install things that might break your system.

A nice command to check if the GPU is active via kernel:

Thank you for your tips and patience.

I looked for solutions at the same time and found that drivers are missing.

I installed the following packages and now it works.

apt-get install firmware-amd-graphics libgl1-mesa-dri libglx-mesa0 mesa-vulkan-drivers xserver-xorg-video-all

Are you sure you need this package? I get the feeling that it's not necessary, you should just need the drivers. If you install a graphical system it could conflict with OMV.

IIRC that package only installs drivers. It mentions nothing regarding a Desktop Ambient:

Yes, I already saw that page before publishing. What catches my attention is that it says this (I don't know if it is the exact text in English, it comes out to me in Spanish and I have translated it into English):

If you know what exact driver you need (for example, the amd-gpu), you may not install the package but only the individual one:
