There are four updates listed as available, but upon clicking Install Updates I get the error:
The following packages have been kept back:
openmediavault-kvm
The updates do not appear to install and I am not sure what the error means.

What is the output of: apt-cache policy qemu-system-common
I had the same problem you need backports enabled in omv-extra>enable backports in omv webUI and it will install fine after that you can disable this afterwards according to the omv-extra kvm plugin notes.

This did it for me as well, thanks.
It occurred to me, but I didn't check it because I definitely had backports enabled. I just double-checked and I'm still using a backport kernel, so I'm not sure what may have happened to disable them.

I released a fix with omv-extras for kvm backports package. Unfortunately when installing the omv-extras fix and the kvm fix together, it doesn't use the omv-extras fix for the kvm packages. enabling backports again allows the omv-extras fix to be in place.
