HPE Proliant Servers

  • It's not exactly the same problem.

I'don't know if it's true but the installation process tells me that everything went well. (It's in french)

When the server reboot, nothing... The HDD seems empty.
Besides, when i start again the installation, it said that i have no os !

  • i bit the bullet and purchased a 4th wd red 2tb, setup the built in raid controller as raid 1+0 created a new array, reinstalled OMV on the SSD without any drives installed so it was /dev/sda .. all good so far..booting up correctly, fast etc.
I fully expected to see only 1 drive within OMV, but i don't, i see all 4 drives listed.
If i create a filesystem it shows me all 4 drives individually, i assumed i would see just the drive presented by the array ??
I even installed the HP HW Raid plugin thinking i may see something with that but alas No... it show "no controllers detected" how do i get tp what i would expect IE: seeing one large drive which is the array drive ?

    1 x 2TB SSD (Data) 1 x 128GB SSD (System) 1 x 2TB WD Red (USB Backup)

  • Do you have an array already? If not, you must create one first.

  • yes i created the array in the array utility on boot up, but it doesn't show

  • Folks,
you can create any kind of array you like but as there is no free linux driver available for the
B120i (pseudo) raid controller you will always see your physical drives and not, as expected, one logical drive.
Either buy a real raid controller or go with MD.

  • i found a Dell PERC310, this does exactly what its supposed to... why on earth would HP cripple this server in so many ways.. i wish i had of stayed with my old N40L

  • makes (business) sense i suppose ..
is there any benefit to install ZFS on OMV and creating and using a basic ZFS pool on top of the raid ?
i am looking for the fastest transfer speeds possible, i currently have some issues i think are due to my installing of plugins before setting up a filesystem for stoarge so i will be reinstalling tonight.

  • ZFS only if you have ECC Ram, otherwise its quite useless. And you need more Ram (depending on your Storage size).

I went with XFS on my OMV machines. Had one Freenas with ZFS before, but after switching this machine to OMV i couldnt move the ZFS volume (due to different features in BSD and Debian ZFS implementations) so i avoided the hassle and use XFS now.

  • Nobody have an idea of what can i do ?

Patchouli and i have the same problem: after installation of OMV from pendrive made with unetbootin on a single HDD (SSD) in slot 1 omv doesn't boot in ahci mode, and no one has an idea how to solve this irregular behaviour.

It must be a problem with the firmware of the Microserver Gen8 with Celeron 1610- when set to sata legacy mode, it boots here, but i want it in ahci mode.

    Spy Alelo, please help us!!

For some reason I am not getting notifications from this thread. So your SSD is not booting when the controller is on AHCI mode? I assume it is on bay one. I'll have to test that on Monday when I come back to the lab. I'm sorry guys, but I've been so busy that I hardly have time for anything anymore.

Can you try installing a regular hard drive (any size will do) and replicate the issue? I want to see if this is an issue with SSDs only.

I could have sworn he already tried AHCI mode. I think I'll have to make a separate thread with FAQs for this server, this thread is so hijacked at this point that is hard to keep track of anything.
