installer doesn't see Realtek RTL8126 driver

  • Hi,

I haven't been able have the installer see the RTL8126 driver on the usb drive.

so here were my steps so far

    1) The install fails b/c it doesn't recognize the Realtek RTL8126 network port on the motherboard.

(confirmed Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device 8126 (rev 01)

    2) I downloaded the latest driver from Realtek website. Created a usb drive from Windows with Rufus. Extracted the tar files and copied the files to the usb drive

    3) When installer doesn't see network card, went with option to "load driver from usb drive". But it doesn't see the driver. I tried a few different folder structures but no luck.

How can I get the installer to see the driver?

  • The driver from Realtek's official website needs to be compiled before use.

Maybe you can try this firmware-realtek from the backports: https://packages.debian.org/bo…orts/all/firmware-realtek

The package firmware-realtek_20241210-1_all.deb contains rtl8126a-2.fw and rtl8126a-3.fw, which might be suitable for your RTL8126 network card.

  • Thanks Zafkiel, unfortunately didn't work so far.

    1) when using those drivers omv install fail with a kernel and archive mismatch error.

    2) I saw the note about compiling, but the installers mini shell won't let me change to the usb firmware stick . Even when I tried make a folder on the actual OMV install drive, I still couldn't figure out how to navigate to those directories from the installer mini shell. I can go to _target, but didn't find those files.
