Transfer firewall configuration between OMV installations

  • Is there a way to transfer the firewall configuration from one installation of OMV to another one (different PC, same VLAN)?

I see that the directory /iptables containing the file openmediavault-firewall.sh is created when I enter firewall rules in the GUI. Can I simply copy this directory and file to the /etc directory in the other installation?

    Approved the thread.
  • That can't influence the GUI on the machine you copy the files to.

A backup strategy is worthless unless you have a verified to work by testing restore strategy.

No, because the file is generated from the OMV configuration database. You can extract the firewall rules manually from the config.xml file and insert them in the config.xml file of the target system, but this can be tricky and result in a broken database if you do not know what you are doing.
