Avahi Daemon Error

  • Hello All,

    I was hoping that someone will be able to help to fix this issue with Avahi Daemon.

    After reading some official OMV documentation i discovered that the Avahi Daemon is a critical part of OMV for use with SMB and should not be disabled - however on my system there is an error and it appears not to be installed correctly.

    I have had an ongoing issue with SMB shares disconnecting and i am trying to work through the problem.

    I read that i should have NetBios enabled when using SMB but if i try to enable it the attached error message appears and it wont save the changes.

    In addition i also read that i should change the workbench port number from 80 to 8888 and again i get the same error message.

    I think maybe Avahi needs to be uninstalled and then reinstalled but i dont know how to do it.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance

    I ran this command which you mentioned in the post that you directed me to:

    for file in $(LANG=C dpkg-divert --list | grep -oP '(?<=local diversion of )[^\s]+'); do dpkg-divert --local --no-rename --remove "${file}" || : ; _divert_to="/tmp/$(echo "${file}" | sed 's|/|_|g')" ; dpkg-divert --add --local --no-rename --divert "${_divert_to}" "${file}" || : ; done

    It worked perfectly and the Avahi Daemon is now reset and working with no errors.

    So thankyou for all of your help!

    Regarding the SMB disconnecting/freezing issue - i have a Zidoo media player and this is where the issue appears (i.e movies constantly pausing).

    It seems to only occur when there are Windows Updates available for download (PC connected to OMV shares) (Win10 Pro - yes i know its near EOL!) so i always thought that there was some sort of port conflict going on somewhere. I've tried removing the PC from my network and i've found the problem is still there so maybe it's an issue between the Zidoo and OMV7 (as far as i can remember when i had OMV 3,4&5 this issue did not occur).

    Have you got any idea what is causing this problem?

    Thanks for your help so far

    Nev
