I've been running an OMV NAS for a few years and I'm using OMV 5. The NAS has no CD/DVD drive and will not boot from USB.
Is it possible to upgrade to latest version using the command line, and if so how? I'm not very savvy with Linux so help is needed for the appropriate commands if it is possible. 
You might be able to do it, but I'll warn you it won't be an easy task; some repositories have disappeared.
I recommend doing a fresh install of OMV7. You can take screenshots of the GUI as a reference to configure everything the same as before. You won't lose any data; just disconnect the data disks during the installation as a precaution. After connecting them, boot the system and mount the existing file systems from the GUI.
In case you want to try, follow these steps:
If something is not working after the upgrade to 6, search for the fix5to6upgrade script.
Equivalent for the upgrade from 6 to 7.
So, if I remove the three data drives and put the new one in I can do a fresh install of OMV7 onto the new drive presumably?

Let me re-phrase this. So if I remove the data drives, leave the system drive in place (sda), put my new drive into a (now) empty slot along side the old system drive, put the OMV7 Iso onto a USB flash drive and plug it into a USB port. What command do I need to install the new version of OMV onto the new drive (i'll be working from the command prompt as root)? Once installed I can then replace the OMV5 drive with the OMV7 drive and reconfigure from there) having taken the necessary screenshots beforehand.

The system boots from the ISO. You only need to connect the flash drive with the ISO and a second drive to install OMV. The installation will erase all existing data on the second drive during installation.

Therein lies the problem! The machine will not boot from USB as stated in my first post.
please burn the ISO on a USB using RUFUS, and test that boot on your desktop PC, then try on your OMV.
If do not work on OMV but yes on desktop PC, you can do the fresh install on your boot disk on your desktop PC ( detach all your existing disk and connect only the boot disk and the USB Key burned with rufus), once you install OMV on the boot disk, you can use it to boot on your OMV, and ONLY need to execute omv-firstaid to detect your NIC.

I booted from an internal CD Drive, which was subsequently removed to make way for the 4 drive hot swap caddy where I then installed the OS drive and 3 data drives. I could go down this route again, but I'd have to remove the caddy and repeat what I did previously. I was trying to avoid that, but it looks like it might be the best solution anyway. Raulfg3's solution would work OK, but I'd still end up having to take a PC apart to do it and in that case the machine I take apart may as well be the server. So, before I do go down that route I'll try and figure out if I can get the beast to boot from USB. Many thanks to everyone who's contributed here.
