Old Tower reuse

  • Old Tower reuse:

    Coolermaster case,

    AMD Phenom II 8GB RAM

    new Powersupply

8 Harddrives from Parallel IDE to SSD

one PCI and one PCE SATA / IDE extension Adapters

incl Power Supply 7 fans (one extra fan is placed over nortbridge...)

  • For a God sake, please clean up this "rat nest", otherwise it is a good idea to use old "bare metal" for OMV.

Linux Mint 22, FreeBSD KDE Plasma

OMV7 NAS 10GB Fiber, Fractal Design Define R5 Case, Kodi "Omega", pfSense Plus firewall/router

  • Grrat build. My kind of stuff. I always use old hardware until it‘s totally dead… Perfect for NAS.

    OpenMediaVault 4
    AMD Phenom 2.3GHz, 6GB DDR2-RAM
    Internal (2TB+2TB+3TB) + External (2TB+1TB+4TB+4TB) = 9TB SnapRAID with 2x4TB Parity

  • Clean up the cabling somewhat and you've got something special to work with there...

My old cases were not featuring enough HDD slots but aside from that, same idea... I just had to get a new case....

Not sure if your board will support it, but I have seen some AMD FX processors going for next to nothing on ebay, and of course others going for a small fortune, shop wisely!
