CIFS/SMB share does not require password to access, (Guest not allowed)

  • I have shared a Media folder using CIFS/SMB , using SMB3 as minimum protocol. I am able to access the folder from another macos, which is on the same subnet.

But the issue is I do not need to provide any password along with the username, after these settings are applied to open the shared folder.
Can someone please help me figure out what I might be doing wrong? Attached screenshot of sharing, nothing fancy. But I thought I would have some basic user auth using the default user account.

I was able to create a folder and push files as well to the share.

Thanks in advance for the help!
Sorry if duplicate, I couldn't easily find the fix for this

  • samba is used to share an "omv shared folder", and inherits the access rights that are defined there, so I'd suggest you double check to see what users are allowed access to the "omv shared folder". If you have a user defined that does not need a password and it has access the the omv shared folder, you may not be prompted for a password to access it.

Also, if at some point you were prompted and successfully entered the password with the "remember my password" check box ticked, you mac will not prompt you again, but instead it will transmit the password stored in the keychain.
