Proxmox/OMV-Strange read performance

  • Hopefully someone can help shed some light on my performance behavior.

New Proxmox build on GMKtec M5 Plus. Currently, I think, most things are running well. Still new to Proxmox. But I've notice copying speed from OMV to Windows 11 is capping out a 40MB/s (looks like max USB2.0 speed). What is really strange, is I can reach 130+ when copying data to the drives. I don't understand this... I've also noticed that at some points in transferring to from OMV, it will increase to 120ish but then drop again. Again, makes no sense to me why it would fluctuate.

Mini PC has two USB 3.1 connections, one is your typical external Seagate drive (New). The other is a Sabrent 5 bay dock (2-3 years old), with 4 disks in it. Has worked great since I've purchased. Ran this on RPi5, no issues, all drives ran close to USB 3.x speed (120~ MB/s), to and from.

So far, I've ran through several different methods to passthrough the USB drives to OMV, all perform the same.

    USB PT via GUI

USB Controller PT...VM fails to stay alive, I think is due to the other devices in the IOMMU groups, maybe I need to exclude some so they are not passed with the controller??

SATA via set command to VM

SCSI via set command to VM

OMV currently has 4 CPUs and 8GB memory, I've doubled this, made no difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
