problem dependencies when installing omv sandworm upon debian 12

  • Hello

i must install debian first because intel ax101 network chipset is not recognized by the original all-in-one iso. But it is correctly activated with debian 12 netinst iso.

At the end of manual omv installation, i get unmet dependencies :

    php-pam

    cpufrequtils (said not installable)

    chrony

i am newbie so please accept to help me to solve this problem

    thanks a lot !

  • thanks for your answer but i get this error message : unsupported version

i think the reason is that the version corresponding to the link (openmediavault-pluging-developers) is trixie version which needs debian 11.

I tried to install debian 11 but my network chipset is not recognized by debian 11. so i must find a solution with debian 12

    got no chance !

Nope. omv-extras (omv-plugin-devs) has no trixie version and debian 11/omv6.x is not supported anymore.

Trixie is Debian 13 and OMV 8.x (not released).

bookworm is Debian 12 and OMV 7.x.

If you are seeing an unsupported message, you must have installed something other than Debian 12. Post the output of:

    lsb_release -a

    arch

    omv 8.1.1-1 synchrony | 6.17 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 8.0.2 | kvm 8.0.7 | compose 8.1.5 | cterm 8.0 | borgbackup 8.1.7 | cputemp 8.0 | mergerfs 8.0 | scripts 8.0.1 | writecache 8.1.1

  • with lsb_release -a i get this :

    No LSB modules are available.

    Distributor ID: Debian

    Description: Debian GNU/Linux 13 (trixie)

    Release: 13

    Codename: trixie

    with arch :

    x86_64

therefore, the name of the iso i downloaded on debian website is debian-12.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso

    it's amazing !

  • i appologize :

i made a mistake with the versions of debian netinst :

versions until 12 included : the intel ax101 chipset is not recognized

version 13 trixie : the intel ax101 chipset is recognized

so i have to wait omv version 8 ??

unless you can install a temporary network adapter that works with Debian 12, yes. If you can install one, you could install the proxmox 6.14 kernel with the openmediavault-kernel plugin and it should support your adapter. That said, I wouldn't run a NAS off wifi.

  • i have already two old synology plugged with rj45 but nowadays it's better to have a model with m2 devices running with opensource software.

since i bought a device for my tv set which place has not rj45 connexion nearby, i thought that using wifi was convenient for reduced transferts

i have rather to buy cpl adapters and still install omv....

A NAS shouldn't need to be near the tv since it isn't the client.

  • my previous nas are dedicated for professionnal usage and the new one will be used for films, personnal videos in the private part of my home. New products proposed by beelink, gmkteck, etc seems to be interesting.

Of course, it is a very little part of what a nas can do but reliability of the nas is so convenient for that !
