MPD with OwnTone - network connection failure

  • Hello,

I`ve the OwnTone plugin on OMV 7.7.16-1 installed as a MPD-Server.

On the client side is M.A.L.P. working.

    Installation was no problem.

Open the WebGUI and connection to the server and the music lib is working.

Here is the first issue: No sound available on the PC where I open the WebGUI.

What is to configure for the sound?

The other and bigger issue is the missing connection between server and client.

I`ve tested this with the Android client M.A.L.P. and one PC client (Debian, GNOME) and it doesn`t work.

The IP of the server is 192.168.1.2 and the original port was 3689.

I`ve try different ports but there is no connection possible.

I`ve try with the host name of the OMV NAS but the same failure.

Test with Abd w/o password. Doesn' t matter!

The user owntone has access on the music folder!

I`ve no experience with with MPD-Server/client applications.

What is my fault and how can I fix the issues?

    Many thanks

  • Ok, OwnTone is working but the Android Client M.A.L.P. doesn't work.

Also desktop client (Debian, GNOME, e.g. Ymuse) doesn't work.

    "network failure:0" is the message.

I don't know it's the IP Adresse or what ever.

    Maybe someone has any idea.

On the other side it works nice with the WebGUI😁

Changed the title of the thread from “OwnTone - network connection failure” to “MPD with OwnTone - network connection failure”.
  • Owntone (formerly forked-daapd) doesn’t play sound directly through the web UI – it acts as a music server, so you won’t hear anything on the PC just by opening the GUI. You need to configure an output in owntone.conf, for example ALSA, PulseAudio, or a network output like AirPlay/Chromecast, depending on where you want playback.

For the client connection: M.A.L.P. needs to connect to the MPD interface, not the DAAP one. By default that’s on port 6600, not 3689. Make sure the MPD section in owntone.conf is enabled (mpd { enabled = true; port = 6600; }) and that your firewall allows it. Then point M.A.L.P. to 192.168.1.2:6600 with the correct password if set.
