Change Label of new device

  • Hey guys,

i replaced my failing drive with a big new one.

Now i mounted it, and want to add the shares.

I know, OMV does not use the labels of drives for identification, but all my other drives have a label see screenshot.

How can i add a label to my new drive like eg. "14tb Drive", so i can see it in the different GUI menues in the row Device?

i found an old thread, where Agricola suggested to use a symlink. But i don't know, if this symlink will show up in the Device row?

    Thank you so much. :)

    cheers

  • In the shell run this command:

    Code
    sudo e2label /dev/sdb1 new-label-name-here

A backup strategy is worthless unless you have a verified to work by testing restore strategy.

The device name (/dev/sdb) might or might not change between boots. You have to check what the correct device is and adapt the example as needed.

Please note, that adding the label will not influence the mount point which is something like /srv/dev-disk-by- uuid-yyyyy-vvvvv.....

  • Does the mount point (/dev/sdx) not change with each reboot?

It can change, but that wouldn't change the label on the disk because it is written to the disk, not supplied by the OS.
