Where do you try to login? OMV GUI?
i have reset the admin password a few times and it keeps failing.
What does this mean? Do you get an error message in the terminal? Or is this on the the GUI? What happens?

logging in through the web interface. im running firstaid which seems to work fine then i reset the password for the root user to web interface and it wont accept it. it wont accept any suggested defaults after i remove and reinstall. i reset the counter, there was only 2 instances in there. still no go. also not my pi isnt registering on my network at all. looking through my router config theres no wired connections and i have its wifi off. im thinking i need to blow away pi lite and start again?

Did you check if your OS filesystem is full?
followed the directions back to attempting to ssh and that wont accept the default password
I am not very familiar with RPi, but I think there is no default password for ssh access. I think you can set a password for user pi when creating/downloading the image.
For sure there is one for the GUI.
user: admin
password: openmediavault
The user admin works only in the GUI, not via ssh.
yeah im getting a remote host identification has changed warning then permission denied. when i was trying to get back into omv after an install it wouldnt accept those login details either

there is currently a barebones OS, not even close to installing omv back on it.
Offending ED25519 key in /Users/Pete/.ssh/known_hosts:1
just remove the line in the file
/Users/Pete/.ssh/known_hosts
Then you should be able to connect via ssh again.

Which user are you trying to log in with?
The user to access the OMV GUI is 'admin' and the default password is 'openmediavault' unless you have changed it.
The GUI cannot be accessed with the 'root' user.
The message you're receiving is normal. Your PC is simply warning you that the server's SSH key has changed.
You have several options to resolve this.
- Change the IP address of that host on your router. Your client will no longer see a key change on that IP address; it will see a different host, and you'll be able to connect. The problem is that if you connect from that IP address again, you'll see the same message.
- Remove that SSH key from your PC. If your PC is running Windows and you're using PuTTY, simply accept the warning message. If it's Linux or Mac, run:
ssh-keygen -R <pi-ip>
