[OMV8] Error on cpupower.service

  • You need to use the --, otherwise the command does not work as expected.

Ok, i never had done this before and never recognized any problem with the variable settings...

So, i have to change my personal manual...

Thank you for your fix with 8.1.0-1 !!!

    Best regards

  • As of Fri Feb 13 @ 2:40pm, I am still getting cpupower errors on a clean install.

    I tried:

    - go into System, Power, Settings, "performance", SAVE, apply changes, and reboot

    - still no OVM web gui

    - then "omv-firstaid", set the eno1 IP address, reboot again

    - still no OVM web gui

I am now dead in the water and guess I will re-install.

P.S. I've done about 8 of these OMV installs during the last week with NO ISSUES... on the same computers... so I don't understand why I'm suddenly getting the cpupower issues.

P.P.S. Ok, I was able to get the OMV WEB GUI back after rebooting again and doing omv-firstaid and "configure workbench port 81". So, I admit I'm BRAND NEW to OMV... but it looks amazing! I am using this script to install it from scratch on Debian 13:

    curl -sSL https://github.com/OpenMediaVa…Script/raw/master/install | bash

Is that wrong? I read about it in https://wiki.omv-extras.org/do…lternate_scripted_install

    (please advise, thx)

    Is that wrong?

Nope. If you follow the guide exactly, I find it hard to believe things are broken unless your system doesn't support the performance setting (doubt that too).

go into System, Power, Settings, "performance", SAVE, apply changes, and reboot

    - still no OVM web gui

Need more info after the reboot but before you run omv-firstaid.

    ip a

  • Ok, I started over (because I can without any pain on this project) and always use this script to install on Debian 13.3:

    curl -sSL https://github.com/OpenMediaVa…Script/raw/master/install | bash

And though I didn't see your post quickly enough, I've still NOT run omv-firstaid.

And when I surfed to http://192.168.13.252 OMV web gui was right there, going strong.

But, when I tried to "apply" I got this error:

So I went to System, Power, Settings, changed the blank entry to "performance", SAVE, apply changes...

    AND SUCCESS!!!

I've installed on this same computer about 6 or 7 times, and never got the "cpupower problem" until Friday (2 days ago).

But I think I've found the workaround (changing the blank entry to "performance").

I even wiped/reinstalled and tried to edit the /etc/cpupower-service.conf to contain GOVERNOR='performance' before I installed OMV, and though OMV re-wrote the file, and I saw "performance" still there, it wouldn't "apply" until I changed it in the gui.

As for your request... I did run these things:

    ip a

    systemctl status nginx

    systemctl status php8.4-fpm

    systemctl status openmediavault-engined

and still see some cpupower errors... which I hope you can explain.

If you would like me to wipe/install Debian/install OMV and run these commands again before I do anything else... let me know.

I usually re-install until I get a clean install for any server anyway.

But, when I tried to "apply" I got this error:

I would need to see the whole error that you can copy&paste from the bell in the top right of the omv web interface.

I've installed on this same computer about 6 or 7 times, and never got the "cpupower problem" until Friday (2 days ago).

There have been a lot of recent cpupower changes. It is possible the install script is not setting the default properly. The install script leaves a log in /root/omv_install.lo if you want me to look at it.

No need. If you could post the output of sudo systemctl status cpupower.service

(maybe I need to reach out to the https://github.com/OpenMediaVault-Plugin-Developers/ because I always use their script to install... and maybe they changed the power conf settings)

I wrote that script. you are already reaching out. I have tested the new cpupower many times but some systems only support certain settings. most of my testing is in VMs as well which doesn't support cpupower at all.

Maybe an invalid setting in the database?

Maybe the install script is inserting an invalid state since it retrieves the states from the kernel config instead of the system. I will have to look at that.

  • And here's the output from "systemctl status cpupower.service":

Sorry I don't have any other errors to show... I selected "performance" from the dropdown and have moved forward... I've been able to add users, configure LUKS on /dev/sd[abcd] and format them with XFS, and add /dev/dm-[012] to mergerfs...

You have definitely won me over on "mergerfs"... I had no idea it existed until I found it in your posts... I will skip RAID 5 now, for sure... it's SO FAST to encrypt/format... it took 62 hours to RAID 5 format these 4 drives last month... but with LUKS and XFS and mergerfs... less than an hour... wow!

(I also want to do SnapRAID on /dev/dm-3... just need to read a bit more)

Now I just need to add keyfiles to each of the LUKS key-slots and then add (something) to the /etc/crypttab... that's where I got stuck before.

The install script is setting the cpu freq scaling to ondemand which is your kernel's default and omv does think it is a valid choice.

What is the output of: journalctl -u cpupower | cat
