omv8 for prod systems - there will be no automatic migrations between 8.0-x versions

  • I am running omv8 on a prod system - just for home lab use - docker / kvm etc.

Looking at the install guide for omv8, it says

    • If there are database changes, there will be no automatic migrations between 8.0-x versions.

What does this mean for updating omv8 at the moment? Is there a possibility I will need to re-install or can I manually manage any database changes?

If there are database changes you can manually trigger the migration script (which is normally idempotent and therefore should not have any side effects).

The only reason I mentioned that no automatic database migrations take place is simply that the corresponding tool only supports upgrades for minor versions, i.e., 8.0.1 to 8.0.2 or 8.1.2, but not 8.0-1 to 8.0-2.

  • Thanks again. Too easy.

OMV8 + plugins are working great on my systems. You and Aaron have done amazing work as always.

I will wait for the release upgrade script for my remaining omv system on a rpi4 to assist with testing

  • Nice. I will clone my SD card and do some upgrade testing when released.

I'm interested in how rpi upgrade to trixie handles the new approach to swap file on PiOS that now uses zram. Probably fine but who knows...
