Accessing video files stored in omv data drive on a Humax pvr

  • Is it possible to use a Humax PVR to access omv, and play video files stored on an omv data drive?

Both the humax and the omv are connected by LAN to the router.

I haven't worked out how to make the Humax pvr see the omv server.

I am trying to replace a WD My_Book drive connected by usb to the router, as it is very slow and doesn't play videos well over the network.

I have managed to make videos on the omv playable on Linux PCs on the network but haven't been able to locate the omv server with the pvr settings interface yet, nor locate the router on OMV. Both are shown on the router GUI as LAN connected devices.

What information do I need to enter in omv to set up a Samba share with the router (Humax FVP-5000T), as I think that is what is needed, and how do I go about it? After the IP address, the settings are a mystery to me.(Absolute omv beginner)

    Thanks in advance..

Linux network plus android phone, and hoping to view videos from OMV on my TV via a Humax set top box FVP-5000T. Also using the OMV for data backup of various home PCs. Not a gamer. • Thanks - I created the smb share as per the instructions. I was able to locate the share under "network share" in the androidphone so that is one step forward..

However, l don't see the share in the Humax PVR, and the Humax PVR doesnt appear anywhere in the Network folder list in my PCs although it is visible in the router configuration GUI. Getting that link going is a big reason for doing this project.

  • Google seems to think that your Humax PVR only supports the (insecure) SMB1 protocol for folder sharing via Samba, which isn't enabled in either OMV or Windows 10/11 but can be turned on. Have you looked into that?

  • Using the OMV-MiniDLNA plugin might be another option:

    Install OMV-Extras; OMV-Extras.org Plugin

Then in your OMV gui go to System / Plugins and install "openmediavault-minidlna" from the list of plugins.

Once installed in the Services section of the OMV gui look for MiniDLNA.

Within MiniDLNA enable the service and select the folders you wish to share.

You are correct, I had forgotten about the "depracated SMB1" issue, which I last dealt with when acessing my PVR via a Windows 7 network about 6 years ago. However, as I had also set up FTP in OMV,I would have expected that to show in the PVR. However, all was solved by the old SIOASIOA (switch it - the PVR - off and switch it on again) trick when suddenly the PVR could see three shares labelled OpenMediaVault, and one of them was the samba share, and gave me access to a test video. The other two were asking for passwords, ? the NFS share and ??

I can now begin to get my video library off the so-slow usb ext-HDD connected to my router and onto the OMV SSD.

Thanks for the help - that's another big step forward.

  • Thanks for the reply. I've managed to solve it by another route, so I'll leave the plugin issue for another day, Thx again.

  • see my earlier reply to cubemin a few minutes before I replied to you. I had to remove the default OMV block on depracated SMB1, and use the SIOASIOA fix on the PVR.
