/var/log/proftpd: No such file or Directory

  • Hi there!

    I am using

    - openmediavault 8.0.6-2

    - with an Android Box and

    - Armbian 26.2.0 Trixie current 6.18.2 and

    - openmediavault-writecache 8.1 is installed

    - on a SD-Card.

    I'm having the following problem:

When I try to activate the proftpd service, I get the following error:

unable to stat() /var/log/proftpd: No such file or Directory

    and

unable to open ControlsLog '/var/log/proftpd/controls.log': No such file or Directory

If I create the directory using

    sudo mkdir /var/log/proftpd

and then activate the proftpd service, everything works fine. The controls.log file is

created, and everything seems to be working.

However, if I restart my NAS, the directory and the file have disappeared again. The "enabled" checkbox is still selected, but the service isn't running for the reasons mentioned above: no directory, no file exists.

My understanding is that the writecache plugin is the problem, however, I need the plugin (if I understand correctly) to prevent the SD card from becoming defective after a very short time.

    Can anyone help me?

    Thank you for reading.

    Marc :)

    Approved the thread.
  • Aaaargh, I found this ...

    ... and will test it.

Sorry, but "manchmal sieht man den Wald vor lauter Bäumen nicht"

I will get back to you with an update on how I (hopefully) managed to resolve it.

  • Okay, if I disable "use system memory" and select a "shared folder," then it works.

    Problem: Power management/spindown is ignored.

My idea is to leave "use system memory" enabled and create automatically the needed folder on every restart.

Is that possible, and does anyone have a solution for this?

Or is there another, perhaps more elegant, solution?

As I understand it, this should not be needed if you do at least one sync by the writecache-plugin. e.g on shutdown or on shutdown and once per day
