MiniDLNA aborts about 1-2 times a day with OMV 8

  • Hi,

since several years I'm using OMV with miniDLNA from OMVextras without issues.

since some times (I'm not sure if this is exactly when I updated to OMV8 or shortly after), miniDLNA is always aborting.

the typical information i see with sudo service minidlna status is the following

    Code
    minidlnad[116711]: minidlnad: upnpevents.c:333: upnp_event_prepare: Assertion `obj->sub' failed.
    systemd[1]: minidlna.service: Main process exited, code=killed, status=6/ABRT
systemd[1]: minidlna.service: Failed with result 'signal'.

I tried to uninstall miniDLNA and reinstall it. I erased several times the database that it was rebuild. both did not help.

any hints where the issue could be? Is it more an issue on miniDLNA? An issue on the data which are provided (I'm only using MP3 data and no video data and there were not much additions in the last time)? Or somthing with clients bringing the system to an abort? Or an hardware issue on the server itself?

  • Is this the right source-code? <https://github.com/janforman/minidlna/blob/main/upnpevents.c>

does anyone know what is this function which seems to crash here?

Even removing most of the folder and clearing the database did not solve the issue.. So I suspect that there is nome network issue, but I'm missing a hint where to search.

Does anyone else have this issue?

This is the official source code from the author - https://sourceforge.net/p/minidlna/git/ci/master/tree/

Might be worth posting on the author's discussion board - https://sourceforge.net/p/minidlna/discussion/

Who uses MiniDLNA on OMV8 without issues?

any hint, what I could tryout?

Who uses MiniDLNA on OMV8 without issues?

I tried to drop the plugin on OMV8 but too many people whined about it being missing. People have problems with minidlna quite often. That is why I wanted to drop it and push people toward another dlna server.

Can you recommend an alternative DLNA server?

To be honest, having DLNA is one of the major key-feature I appreciate at OMV. And your implementation is the easiest-usable solution (And worked for me the last 10 years perfectly)

I stopped using dlna over 10 years ago but I was using twonky back then. I use nfs now. plex, jellyfin, etc serve via dlna.
