If you have only one disk, then it contains the root filesystem and therefor can not be used by default to store user data. You need a second disk or the openmediavault-sharerootfs plugin to be able to create shared folders on the root (OS) filesystem.

The SSD is connected to the Pi with USB, so power shouldn't be a problem, running a similar setup with the Pi on without any problem
