Upgrade from OMV-7 to OMV-8 fails with various errors

  • Following the announcement that OMV-7 is now EOL I decided to upgrade to OMV-8.

The current status appears to be that OMV-7 has been removed and I get various error pertaining to the install of OMV-8
I connected to OMV-7 as root using SSH.
    I ran the following commands

apt update && apt full-upgrade >> this ran clean with no errors, nothing to install or remove.

omv-release-upgrade >> This returned several errors like

    Code
     E: Failed to fetch https://packages.openmediavault.org/public/pool/main/s/salt/s alt-common_3008.1_amd64.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 172.67.169.197 443]

I ran the the fix7to8 script.
OMV-7 was removed and OMV-8 install started. Then I get the following error:

    Code
    Rebuild apt index ...
    Traceback (most recent call last):
      File "/usr/sbin/omv-mkaptidx", line 41, in <module>
        import openmediavault.productinfo
    ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'openmediavault.productinfo'
    sudo: omv-salt: command not found
Job for php8.4-fpm.service failed because the control process exited with error code.
See "systemctl status php8.4-fpm.service" and "journalctl -xeu php8.4-fpm.service" for details.
    Done.

I then ran apt --fix-broken install but this gave some more errors, so I ran dpkg -i omvextras8.deb

So I'm stuck now and not sure how to proceed. Please help.

    I'm still connected via SSH.

    Thanks, Steve

  • I ran 'apt --fix-broken install' again and the installation proceeded.

However, it's 91% complete and I'm stuck at the Postfix Configuration section.

I can't move on from here. I can't enter my selection. I'm using SSH.

  • Doh, thanks ryecoaaron, I forgot about the tab key.

The process finishes with a warning message.

I'm not sure if this because I'm still connected via SSH.

I receive emails from openmediavault.internal saying that 277 package update(s) available and Pending configuration changes.

  • I ran omv-upgrade and this applied numerous packages and I rebooted. I changed the admin password using omv-firstaid from SSH but I still can't login using admin and I still get the ACPI BIOS errors. I was able to login using root at the console.
Also, following the omv-upgrade I can now access the workbench from my browser and everything looks okay.

So do I need to worry about the ACPI BIOS errors? How can I check that the installation is now complete?

So do I need to worry about the ACPI BIOS errors?

acpi errors rarely cause a problem unless you try to sleep a server (more common on a laptop). What kernel are you running?

How can I check that the installation is now complete?

I would run the fix7to8upgrade script. Run it again if you already did. If that runs successfully and dpkg -l | grep openme shows all packages as ii, I would say you are good.
