initial password not accepted

  • Followed these steps: https://wiki.omv-extras.org/do…omv8:raspberry_pi_install but got stuck at First Time GUI Logon. I have an ssh open with admin@pi-nas but wheather I try the passowrd I defined creating the image or "openmediavault" it is not accepted.

    Password openmediavault says:

    Code
    POST http://pi-nas.kingma/rpc.php
    Status 401
    Unauthorized
    VersionHTTP/1.1
    Transferred1.20 kB (397 B size)
    Referrer Policystrict-origin-when-cross-origin
    DNS ResolutionSystem

I see this logged (journalctl -f)

    Code
    Aug 15 16:39:07 pi-nas openmediavault-webgui[1171]: Authorized login from 192.168.111.43 [username=admin, user-agent=Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:153.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/153.0]

Setting a new admin password with `sudo omv-firstaid` works but it is still not accepted at the webui

If you can ssh as admin, that means you created an admin user before installing omv. When you do that, it breaks the admin user for the web interface. If you follow the rpi install guide exactly, you would not create an admin user.

  • I misread

    Quote

"The username and password entered here will be the administrative user that will be utilized in later operations on the command line."

So I guess this can be anything but admin and in fact should not be anything but `user01` to be on the save side? Could be in the notes though.

So here we are. what do I do next?

It literally just shouldn't be admin. Use whatever name you except admin. I don't write the notes but most people don't use admin. They use pi or their name.

So here we are. what do I do next?

The easiest fix is to reinstall. Figuring out how you created admin and what its current state is to fix it to work as omv admin would be a lot more work for me.

  • Just for kicks I looked at my other build that was OMV7 converted to OMV8. Under users there is a user "Admin" on my new fresh OMV8 install there is none.

    Old migrated system:

    Fresh install:

Incindentely on the new system the webgui accepts admin but ssh accepts only user1

  • Incindentely on the new system the webgui accepts admin but ssh accepts only user1

The admin user has no shell set by default so it can not be used to access the system via SSH or the console.

Under users there is a user "Admin" on my new fresh OMV8 install there is none.

That is because you created the user and it is not a system user. The Users tab in omv web interface does not show system users. When OMV creates the "admin" user, it is created as a system user.
