SATA drives disappeared after motherboard BIOS update

  • Hello everyone,

I updated the BIOS on my desktop board (ASUS Prime B450M-A) to the latest version, and after that, 2 of my 6 SATA drives stopped showing up in OMV. Before the update, all 6 drives worked fine.

I checked the BIOS settings after the update, and the SATA mode is still set to AHCI, so that has not changed. All 6 drives are still detected in the BIOS itself, just not in OMV anymore.

I originally got this board from this site: https://www.orangehardwares.co…ions/desktop-motherboards

Did the BIOS update reset some setting I am missing, or could this be a known issue with this board after updating? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Approved the thread.
  • It might be a lot of possible causes for the missing devices.

You could try and boot to a live session linux (for example ubuntu, mint, etc) and from there check if the disks are visible on the live os.

If not, you could try to check with a gparted or similar tool to check the partitions on the missing disks.

Ultimately, you can try to move the problematic disks to another desktop and theck them there.

If they do not show up at all in the os, then I am almost sure the problem is with the disks.

  • If your board has one or more M.2 slots, one might be switchable between SATA and NVME modes. Using it in NVME mode often disables one of the motherboard SATA ports due to bandwidth sharing. That's one more thing to check in the BIOS settings.

But definitely follow jgyprime 's advice as well.
