Update zfs failed?

    • Official Post

There appears to be an issue zfs (dkms, modules, zed) will post the output from the last two updates as they both produced an error

I did find a thread on here and ran this apt-cache policy zfs-dkms -> output

    Code
    apt-cache policy zfs-dkms
    zfs-dkms:
      Installed: 2.3.9-0+deb13u1
      Candidate: 2.3.9-0+deb13u1
      Version table:
     *** 2.3.9-0+deb13u1 500
            500 http://security.debian.org/debian-security trixie-security/contrib amd64 Packages
            100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

not sure if it's relevant, have also run the 'fix packages' in the plugin but will have wait for another update as I've just run that.

Raid is not a backup! Would you go skydiving without a parachute?

You have very old proxmox kernel installed and you don't see to have backports enabled. So, you are getting a very old zfs-dkms package.

What kernels are installed? If you are running the proxmox kernel, remove old kernels and non-proxmox kernels. Then you won't need to enable backports. If you are using debian kernel, you need to enable backports.

    omv 8.5.11-1 synchrony | 7.0 proxmox kernel

    plugins:

    omvextrasorg 8.0.3 | kvm 8.3.4 | compose 8.2.2 | cterm 8.0.4 | borgbackup 8.2.1 | tempmon 8.0.5 |

    mergerfs 8.0.2 | scripts 8.0.6 | writecache 8.3.0 | backup 8.1 | kernel 8.1

Just the proxmox kernel, no other kernels installed

Your output is building the zfs module for the 5.15 kernel. But since you are running only proxmox, you can remove zfs-dkms. I would click the fix packages button to do that.

to get rid of the 5.15 kernel, what is the output of: dpkg -l | grep -E "zfs|proxmox|pve"

    omv 8.5.11-1 synchrony | 7.0 proxmox kernel

    plugins:

    omvextrasorg 8.0.3 | kvm 8.3.4 | compose 8.2.2 | cterm 8.0.4 | borgbackup 8.2.1 | tempmon 8.0.5 |

    mergerfs 8.0.2 | scripts 8.0.6 | writecache 8.3.0 | backup 8.1 | kernel 8.1

I should've had you run those commands in the opposite order. No big deal though. Run this now:

    sudo apt-get purge --autoremove pve-headers-5.15* proxmox-headers-6.2* proxmox-headers-6.8* zfs-dkms

    omv 8.5.11-1 synchrony | 7.0 proxmox kernel

    ?( another problem;

I've been out all day so just found this, appears as if the zfs plugin is not installed, file system and shares missing in GUI but the smb shares are accessible.

Install the plugin recreate the shares that are still there under the pool name using mc

I can't explain why the plugin was uninstalled on your system. You will likely have to look at /var/log/apt/term.log

When the plugin gets uninstalled, you shouldn't have to recreate anything. Just import the pool again from the plugin.

This zfs dependency stuff is so frustrating.

I'm guessing you don't have the proxmox repos enabled now. Click the install proxmox button in the kernel plugin even if you already have the kernel installed. Then try installing the zfs plugin again.
