Disks missing on boot after upgrade from Bookworm > Trixie, OMV 7 > 8

  • Hello!

    I followed this guide

OpenMediaVault 8 Upgrade Guide: Navigating the Jump to Debian 13 & Kernel 6.17

(though I found this post later which would have been much simpler)

and all seemed to work fine. The only issue I found was my Wavlink USB docking station was no longer recognized on boot. I needed to boot without the drives and then hot plug them. Then they were fine. When noodling around the OMV documentation I found reference to JMicron chipped externals (which this is) not being recognized and it recommended adding

    99-openmediavault-dev-disk-by-id.rules to /etc/udev/rules.d

So I did that and it's fixed. Not complaining, I'm just curious why I had to do this when the dock worked fine on Deb 12 with 7. Maybe because I made it too complicated!

Thanks for reading and any replies!

  • After today's Samba update, same situation again. Both disks in dock missing.

Have to reboot disco'd, then hot plug. Weird.

    /etc/udev/rules.d/99-openmediavault-dev-disk-by-id.rules still exists.
