rsnapshot 1.0.7 broke backups

    Need help...

    /Henrik

  • I observed from rsnapshot 1.0.6
    Backups went into
    .../backup/NASdisc

    When in 1.0.7 rsnapshot creates
    .../backup/NASdiscNASdisc
    parallell to previous location

...seems to be soeme sort of "link" problem to target folder...

  • I have not messed with my rsnapshot.con except for settings inside OMV rsnapshot plugin concerning d/w/m/y. Content of rsnap.conf

    # rsnapshot-883ef632-9687-45d2-85ef-3612d4fcf944.conf

    lockfile /var/run/rsnapshot-883ef632-9687-45d2-85ef-3612d4fcf944.pid

    Why does this create
    /media/2863a465-b148-4158-81b3-6e9df4ed9940/backup/NASdisc
    NASdisc/anna

As you see naming of NASdisc folder is duplicated...

    Yielding the error message:
    Creating target directory structure ...
Checking access rights on target directory structure ...
    ... /media/2863a465-b148-4158-81b3-6e9df4ed9940/backup//NASdisc

ERROR: rsnapshot can not continue. If you think an entry looks right, make
ERROR: sure you don't have spaces where only tabs should be.

  • Verified problem.

If rsnapshot.conf is manually edited concerning rsnapshot root to
    snapshot_root /media/2863a465-b148-4158-81b3-6e9df4ed9940/backup/NASdisc/anna//
...everything is fine, backups generated as expected

Returning to OMV and editing rsnapshot settings, for example changing 3 monthly to 12 monthly and savingchanges breaks rsnapshot.conf root definition, generating
    snapshot_root /media/2863a465-b148-4158-81b3-6e9df4ed9940/backup//NASdisc
    NASdisc/anna/

...that is, with a linebreak and hence genreating a broken link to "NASdisc NASdisc", which cant be read.

So in all using rsnapshot outside OMV is ok as long as you edit the conf file manually.

Admin, feel free to move this thread to "bugs".

Not sure why it is doubling the label. I changed that in 1.0.6. Nothing changed in 1.0.7. You must have been using 1.0.5. I will have to do some tests.

I am pretty sure it was introduced with 1.0.6 because I changed how the label works (it didn't work with xfs). Either way, I want to fix it.

  • I can't be sure my previous version was 1.0.6 .... I only upgraded to 1.0.7 when it appeard in the OMV updates.
Anyway I uninstalled 1.0.7 , rebooted and reinstalled 1.0.7 with new config files.
Didn't help. The problem as described in the beginning of this thread persisted.

Maybe it was introduced in 1.0.6 but I didn't recognize it. If my original backups were setup in 1.0.5 and I didn't touch the rsnapshot settings they would maybe work perfectly fine in 1.0.6 ...

ryecoaaron ...very pleased you will look into this!

Should be fixed in 1.0.8 that I just put in the repo. Let me know if that fixes it.

  • Updated 1.0.7 to 1.0.8

Setup 2 rsnapshot jobs with hourly update.
Forced these two jobs and they both passed without errors. No "duplicate name" folder generated.
Checked the two rsnapshot.conf files which now both had a correct link to rsnapshot root.
Automatic rsnapshot hourly started and generated correct backuped folders (hourly.0 to hourly.1 and so on) and notification that backups finished without problems.
...thus seems like prolem is solved.

Many thanks ryecoaaron. Don't think I've ever had that fast response from moderator/team...!
    Please mark as solved.

Glad to hear it :) I use this plugin myself and hadn't updated yet. Thanks for pointing out the bug that would've caused me problems too.
