Can WD Red 4TB HDD's be used for a self built Server/NAS or only for "real" NAS (QNAP etc.)?

This happened with OMV as well as with Ubuntu in different machines using different SATA cables

Create a new filesystem on it. Using dd wipes all filesystems.

So you think there IS something wrong with the drive (I'm not too good in rating SMART values...)?

If so I'm really really relieved - I almost doubted everything I know about computers and was pretty despaired...

As mentioned above it is an already returned HDD for a presumably broken one (same symptoms) - how likely is it that this happens to a WD Red? Can I or my system cause something like this???

Unless you're living in an earth quake region and happened to have one where you had the old one and now had an earthquake again, no i doubt you caused it...

Contact your supplier, tell him that drive is broken (copy them the smart data). They should replace it again.

Alright guys, I just want to inform you that I received a new HDD from WD. They changed it without any problems.

Now I only need to install it but honestly, I'm really afraid of doing it - I don't know what I will do if it doesn't work again

Well, actually it's not only my Angst, it's also a question of time (about 50/50, I assume... )

Finally, after weeks swinging between panic and joy I took all my courage and fired up my OMV with the new (well, "recertified" it says...) HDD - everything's fine so far...

So now I pray three Lord's Prayers every night it will stay so...
(Well, another problem occurred now: Samba not working for 2 of 3 users)
