it seems that all 3.0xx users we are, must upgrade our old 3.xx to 4.x, if i understand what i read here or there, about jessie-updates.
i am afraid of 4.x, because, last try i went back to 3.0.

Hi, same on my OMV 3.9, after an update, then, no more update. Fail to access to http://ftp...
Code404 Not Found E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.version 3.0.99 (erasmus)

On my Gen8, i made 2 different setups from scratch.
1st one, with 4 x 4 TB HDD connected on 1.2.3.4 th port, and 1 SSD (5th port, instead of CD/DVD drive). => OMV2, then OMV3 upgrade. Works fine.
2nd setup, with HP smartarray p410 card, and 4 HDD connected on it with miniSAS/SATA cables. The Same SSD but this time, connected on 1st SATA port of Motherboard. Works fine too.

Hi,
Connect only your SSD on your Gen8, then, activate in Bios, AHCI (not raid).
Install OMV on the SSD. Restart.
After that, OMV will boot on your SSD, without volume raid. Then, with OMV you will be able to create your volume. -
Hi guys,
i try a lot of things to avoid this email notification, and this is what i did:
https mode
cookies accepted in FF and Chrome, cookies are kept in CCleaner. cleaning cache
at each login, i must enter id/pwd. But cookies are on my pc.
Id/pwd deleted on Chrome/FF, and logout then login. No asking to save id/pwd in FF or Chrome (??)switch to http
deleting cookies, to be sure. cleaning cache too.
and 1st login, entering id/pwd, then asking to save pwd, then i can see a new cookie in CCleaner and FF and Chrome. Keeping this cookie set in CCLeaner. And FF/Chrome setting: keep cookie til their expiration.
logout, then login: in login window, my informations are there, YES... login, then logout. And again.and i always receive my email login notification...
So, what i had to do to avoid this issue was to uncheck receiving notification, to choose http instead of https.
it is not normal or acceptable for me. I have no issue like that on others web site, with 2FA or not.
what i want to know is if it is my PC settings, my OMV settings or a
fyi, i have this on all my OMV 3.0.99 (even in fresh OMV4.0, but now, i own only OMV3.0.99, i uninstall OMV4.)
these actions are made on new fresh OMV install (from scratch, new ssd).
what is the next try ? i would like to understand. Of course, all my OMVs work very fine, this is only this annoying thing i have.
thanks for your ideas or help

hi,
to see where are the used references, you can use resetperms plugin present in omv-extra.in my case, when i was in same situation, to remove a shared folder used in backup plugin, i create a new share folder on another present disk, just for temporary use.
them, older shared folder previously used by backup plugin was not referenced by backup plugin, but always by shared folders.
then, i delete this shared folder, in shares section, and then, no reference to it was present. i was able to delete it.i also use different ways, like uninstall plugin just to see changes, but not the right way.
in omv 4, i was also in situation that i can not delete some filesystem because always referenced somewhere, with resetperms i could see it, but not able to change it.
there is a topic where the solution about editing config.xml and delete some lines to fix that.

hello,
raid5 starts only from 3 disks.
Maybe you should able to start from Raid1 (2 discs) and then, transform to raid5 by adding Third disc.
in this case, i 'd rather choose raid5 with 3 disks starting from scratch. -
Hi,
about cookies, there is no cookie problem with HTTP. The 1st time i connect, i can save cookie.
in HTTPs, for a local network use only, there is some security error message i can pass through, with special rule in FF or Chrome, but cookie is not saved. With 3.0.99 (and previous version) and with 4.x version.
i clean cache on all browsers i have. i check kaspersky rules/settings too.
then:is it a https issue ? is it just on my pc ? (i can try under Mac os, or Centos). I can not add certificat because to do that, it needs to be seen from outside (Let's Encryt or equal).
is there anything i would have missed ?

Hi all,
back to 3.0.99 on all my NAS.
I prefer homogeneous NAS.
I don't see improvement with 4.1 version for my use, but some difficulties, or different settings to work properly.
I will try in a few months 4.x
thanks all. -
what a good joke!
i 've just received a new 4TB HDD... now, with your help, i have the right method to do what i want, i am able to grow up my partition (again)... til the next time ( on 8 ports, 7 are used. Last raid card port is free).
- ACU => expand (use available unit)
- ACU => parity check
- ACU => extend (logical volume)
- Gparted => check and resize filesystem.
-
hi,
in progress. 1st, i ran checking of partition, to be sure. all flags were green.
and then, resizing...

with subzero79 's systemrescuecd iso systemrescuecd-x86-5.2.2.iso
thanks for the tips
edit: And then...

it tooks 17'... i thought more but, nice job

after shares and uses setup:

i learn new things with this experience. Thank you all

-
You better put the server down and boot systemrescuecd iso to launch gparted and proceed with partition resize.
ok thanks subzero79, i did a lot of gparted actions on Hdds, but never on raid 5 Partition. if there was not data on it, i would try a lot of actions, but, in this case, i am on such thin ice

more secure to backup all datas before doing anything else. After that, gparted on boot

Code
(parted) resizepart Partition number? 1 Warning: Partition /dev/sda1 is being used. Are you sure you want to continue? Yes/No? yes End? [16,0TB]? 16 Warning: Shrinking a partition can cause data loss, are you sure you want to continue?i don't know if parted works like gparted (i suppose yes, but no experience on cli). afraid to do a silly action.
as you can see, i can't go above 16TB.what i remember with my other NAS (19tb), i create the full raid array with 8 HDDs and with 19tb, i format it with OMV.
and yes, in a next future i will add one or two disks, so, i 'm wondering if i would wait til i have all the Hdds.

Hi,
This is a new enigmatic situation for me, with one of my NAS.
my concerned NAS:
OMV 3.0.99, OS on SSD, HP Smart array P410i card with 5 x 4TB HDD, and with motherboard sata ports, 3 hdds used as single partition each.
Raid 5 created and managed by HP smart array card P410i with FWBC 1Gb, Logical Volume ~14.5TB seen by OMV, device /dev/sdb1/ EXT4 formatted by OMV3.
Everything works fine, ssh, ftp, samba, omv-extras, HWraid plugin, HPraid infos, shared folders.
ssh connection and df -h command i can see /dev/sda1 15T 12T 3,2T 79% /srv/dev-disk-by-label-NAS.... and i see same thing on OMV webgui and same value from Windows 10 browser.
New step:
A few days ago, i install a new 4TB HDD on the array, i used HP ACU and ran a few successive commands to Expand, Transforming, Parity Progression, and then extend the logical volume to 18.2TB. Parity 100% complete.with HP tools (ssacli, hpacucli) i can see this
I thought it was finished.
i restart system.
OMV displays the same physical disk "Logical Volume" with 18.19TB size on left menu "Storage/Physical Disks".
OMV displays the previous size of partition in the left menu "Storage/File Systems", /dev/sda1 NAS_genna Ext4 14.44 TB 3,14 TB 11.29 TB Mounted...
previously, i delete every references, to unmount, if it is the right thing to do. but not enough.Resizing does not work for this. I mount/unmount, delete share folders (without contents), i can unmount it because there is no reference to any shared folder... i shutdown and went to HP ACU ... size is ok, raid 5 status is ok.
I thought HP utility will grow up the volume itself without any other command. It did it. But OMV doesn't use this new space/volume.
as i do not use mdadm for this raid, i am not able to use it.
i have another NAS with a volume 19.3 TB formatted by OMV, managed with p410i too... so , i don't think there is a strange limit.
I don't want to loose any data with a inappropriate command.
I don't know if i have to run resize2fs or not. Is it just a single partition resizing to do ?
partprobe displays that i don't use the full capacity.
fdisk -l displays :CodeDisk /dev/sda: 18,2 TiB, 20003765968896 bytes, 39069855408 sectors Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes Disklabel type: gpt Device Start End Sectors Size Type /dev/sda1 2048 31255884430 31255882383 14,6T Linux filesystemcan you help me ? it seems i need another command to extend like gparted can do on single hdd.
thanks.
edit:
i search on forum how to grow Ext4...
i run this:
resize2fs -p /dev/sda1
and as result, i was informed that i need to run this first : e2fsck -f /dev/sda1
i ran again resize2fs -p /dev/sda1 and i got this :Coderesize2fs 1.43.3 (04-Sep-2016) Le système de fichiers a déjà 3906985297 blocs (4k). Rien à faire ! (Nothing to do).nothing has changed. is there a limit or a link with -O 64bit when i created the 1st partition (size under 16TB) ?
Do i have to re-create the Volume ? -
don't touch my cookies, they are mine

hello, it's me again

since i use OMV4, i was not able to see my shared folders from mediaplayer.
To deal with this situation that did not suit me, i add this ntlm auth = yes in Services/SMB-CIFS/Advanced Setting/extra options.Under Win10-64, with my usual filebrowser, browsing network, i can see now this \\nas-genna.home in addition to my smb shared folders.
why ?
thanks
-
now it is in my list too.
ok for sda/sdb... thanks
i use gparted frequently. There is no mistake, except if i drunk ^^, between my ssd and my raid array
in fact, i will wipe my OS drive, to have a very clean system... except all my datas on raid volume, managed by HP card.
-
Install the resetperms plugin and it will put a "Sharedfoldes in Use" tab in the shared folders section to show you exactly what is using it. That said, disabling a plugin doesn't remove the reference to shared folder. You either have to delete the share or set the shared folder to none (not possible in some plugins) or remove the plugin.
Isn't sda1 your OS drive?
Hello ryecoaaron, thank you for your answer. i will install this plugin.
to install it, i was going to plugin section, and no resetperms plugin present. i install it from cli with theses 2 lines (OMV 3 erasmus plugin ?)
wget https://dl.bintray.com/openmediavault-plugin-developers/erasmus/pool/main/o/openmediavault-resetperms/openmediavault-resetperms_3.3_all.deb
dpkg -i openmediavault-resetperms_3.3_all.deb=> exactly where i use theses 3 folders... ftp, smb and backup, anywhere else (new tabs, reset and shared folders in use).
(to be sure, does it exist a omv 4 plugins list ?)
sdb1 is my os drive actually. does it matter this order ?
I have another question:
i unmount this partition and keep it safe (raid partition created/managed by HP raid card).
if i see only my ssd, then, i wipe it, then i reinstall all my NAS from scratch, and then i add the saved partition, will it work properly ? -
Hi,
i have always some little troubles with OMV4. My question is at the end of this message

situation:
So yesterday i wanted to see how i can unmount my /dev/sda1 (filesystemtype=ext4, from HP smart array raid card). (what i wanted to do is to have only my OS ssd seen in OMV, to wipe it, and then, reinstall 3.x or 4).
to do that, i need to have no reference.
i use 3 shared folders, 2 of them in FTP and SMB, 1 for backup plugin.
i disable smb, ftp, uninstall backup plugin, omv-extras... every single part i thought there is a link...
and i can't un-reference my /dev/sda1, i always see "reference=yes".question:
how can i see which part of OMV uses my partition or my shared folders ?thanks
