Note: There are 2 share`s for backup of laptop with similar names.
Is there any chance to make 3th share-read only?

I would definitely advice third option:
"use USB only for boot partition, and keep other installation partitions on SSD(on ODD/5th port)

    Hi,
Connect only your SSD on your Gen8, then, activate in Bios, AHCI (not raid).
Install OMV on the SSD. Restart.
After that, OMV will boot on your SSD, without volume raid. Then, with OMV you will be able to create your volume.

U are not saying where to put ssd :(1) 5th port or (2)front hdd bay?

    1. this option shall work BUT ONLY PARTLY!!!
Wherever it is needed a reset(bootup)(becouse of reason of whatsoever) of Gen8,
he NEEDS to get HDD`s OUT of front bay`s before of bootup!!!
    Otherways it will NOT bootup.

Therefor is boot(grub) on usb stick is needed!!!

2.That is possible and easy way. Bad side of it is,that he( Mika91) cannot use ssd for more use(saveing) of data on ssd.
AND the most important, he is LoosinG one bay a front/ in start.

    Eric,

Does u`r option(2) allows me to keep 2nd Nas(DS115j) OFF from time to time and than (after booting up) to continue with rSync/rSnapshot or it needs for the purpose of syncing to be connected by all the time?

And what do u mean by bolded/underlined text : auxiliary SSD with its own file system?

    Hello,

    I use Omv3 and Syncthing 3.11

I`m trying to set up a folder, but as screenshot say`s i have permission problem.

Can somebody tell me at least i short steps how to do it?

Through the forum threads some of user a talking about ACLs,but i`m not willing to do on my own, becouse in the past i messed up Omv with experimentig with ACLs.Or is another way?

The latest freefilesync 9.8 via their website runs on debian 9.3, this is probably the reason it will not run, either update OMV or find an earlier version of freefilesync

    Geaves,
Are u saying that "freefilesync9.0" is possible to use under OMV3 or 4 under Omv GUI or strictly under terminal?

First of all,i`m totaly unknown to ZFS.

But i may share my experience with other formats.
In this case was with EXT4 from Sinology Nas on HP Gen8-Omv and it did work without any problem.
Also once an Omv got crushed by my beginners foult`s and after installing Omv, the same media HDD did work without any problems.

If u go to install Omv4...put pressent Pc OFF and disconnect media HDD`s as wel external-so there is no need for "unmount" steps.
Install Omv4 and reconnect all the same as was on Omv3.

    That should do?!

I just saw...ZFS is possible via plugin. If is the same story with Omv4 do not forget first to install a plugin and than to phisically to reconnect.

That depends on u`r hardware setup:

    OpenMediaVault install on:

    1.Usb stick/sd card,
    2.Hard drive,
    3.OpticalDiskDrive-ODD(best sollution)!

Inform of version 4 is stable?

    If not 3 shall do!

User Aroundmyroom have place`d his step by step. And i did followd. But did not work for me on the and.
On internet u can find(if his way does not succeed) another way of doing the same thing.

    Scream if u need help!

Maybe installing OMV on HPE after mem. upgrade shall get rid of swap?

But on another hand "the swap" is on my ssd(5th port)....so it`s not so catastrophy.
Unless u are going to do some heavy job`s with HPE ?

Depending on how much RAM your system has, you may actually be able to completely get rid of the swap partition.

Well, this is very interesting !

Does that "rid of swap" happens automatic by Os(OMV) or manualy/by hand ?
And if is in case of automatic, how much mem is needed to get that to happend theoretical of maximum of supported by motherboard?

In JohnR and my case HPE Gen8 supports max 16gb ram.

On another side what user ajaja where talking is very very true a specialy about used-using ram in daily use!

How were you able to get OMV3 to boot straight from SSD on the 5th bay? I can't seem to get it.

It is possible 2 use 5th port(ssd/hdd) 2 boot up, BUT ONLY if is no HDD`s in front ray`s!!!
Otherwise HPE won`t boot up. So,if the server need a reset or putting OFF electrical grid....at boot up(again) hard drives need to be NOT inserted.
Or BIOS shall recognise hard drive in first slot and say boot up not possible, can not found OS.
    Soooo!!!
    Only and propper way is "internal/motherboard SD/USB stick(Grub) --> 5th port SSD/HDD(OMV) --> Working Great !!!
In this case is much easyer to install OMV3(64bit) than OMV2(32bit) a specialy when it goes about "grub"-in my case"!!!!!!!!

Unless u are "booting & using OMV from internal USB stick with or withouth 5th port.

Hello guy`s, i have bumped into the wall wit he next warning :

    Please wait, syncing </srv/dev-disk-by-label-1.42.6-5644/video/> to <admin@MediaBackUp::NetBackup> ...

rsync: getaddrinfo: MediaBackUp 873: Name or service not known
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(128) [sender=3.1.1]

    Note:
I can not get port 873 ON, on the DS215j(It`s reserved only for system) !
I have tried on both NAS`s port 22 but no result.

    Any advise?

    Hello everybody,

I`m looking for an advise or sollution for my aim.

I have two NAS`s mainly using for as a media dlna. Movies & etc. are on OMV3(HP) and i would like all the media to backup to another NAS which is Synology.
Synology shall not be on all the time.Only in case of backup.Backup shall be not so often(at least one`s a month or less).

    Now,
is there a kind(a way or plug-in) of backup that when i press a button for,OMV check`s for a new content on HDD(`s) and the same content sends to Synology?
So,do not copy`s all the data again and again and again, which may take on the and a few lightyears...
Both NASes are locally(on the same router).

    TNX!
