If you have 5 drives in a mdadm RAID5 array, you're living a bit on the dangerous side. I sincerely hope you have a full data backup. This is especially true if any or all of your drives have some age on them.

It's RAID6, but why would 5 drives be more dangerous than 4?
I had the same experience.
Adding a fifth drive to my array via the GUI only added it as a spare.
I went to the console and entered
mdam --grow --raid-devices=5 /dev/md0
Now the new drive is part of the array and the RAID is reshaping.
I love OMV, version two for years and everything was easy. Maybe it's my imagination, but I find a lot of things require a lot more console intervention in 3. Many things just don't seem to work properly right out of the box, and I see they are already working on 4?

I use Openmediavault with XFS on RAID5 / LVM, it's perfect.
I'm in the process of setting up my own OMV server for the first time and doing research, when I cam accross this very useful thread.
I have a question though, if your drives are already in a RAID, why LVM? Do you have multiple raids and have grouped them together in one logical volume?
