    Hi Everyone,

I am new to openmediavault. Here is my setup and error what i got from.

    Extras: openmediavault-omvextrasorg_latest_all4.deb

I used virtualbox to create a debian linux vm and start to install openmediavault. After finished, I do the following operation,
    1. doing an package upgrade
    2. upload extras ( openmediavault-omvextrasorg_latest_all4.deb )

I ssh login to console as root and try to find omv-mkconf command, but I really cannot find it. PLEASE HELP.
find / -name "omv-mkconf" with nothing returned.

I try 3 time new installation from iso image ( openmediavault_5.0.5-amd64.iso ) with same error 100% happened.

    Hi all,

I download openmediavault_4.1.3-amd64.iso and use virtualbox-5.2.16 r123759 (Qt5.6.2) to install under Win7-64bits environment. I also install extras and some packages from extras. I put this "NAS" in my office, recently, I try to login without any success, and I look into virtualbox start up console (black) and found login page keep printing the following message without logining. Does anyone have problem with this ? After I reboot this openmediavault image from virtualbox, this message gone, but after couple days, it comes out again !!

EXT4-fs (device sda1) ext4_find_entry xxxx: inode xxxxx: comm portftpd: reading directory iblock 0 error

What's wrong with that ? Can anyone help with this situation ? ?(

while switching host from dhcp to static ip, vm can no longer be connected via realvnc, even switching back to dhcp. The state seems broken forever. I have installed a Win Enterprise 7, and an Ubuntu VMs. That's really working fine before changing ip.

The only question here left is ip switch somehow broken vm state, and cause remote desktop connection dead, but I can still see vm is up and running from web virtualbox management interface small (right corner) view window.

Actually, finally, I did it and it works fine, but while switching host from dhcp to static ip, vm can no longer be connected via realvpc, even switch back to dhcp. the state seems broken forever. I have installed a Win Enterprise 7, an Ubuntu VMs. That really working fine.

The only question here left is ip switch somehow broken vm state, and cause remote desktop connect is dead.

While using virtualbox to install Win7 VM via 192.168.1.132:9002 (dhcp) realvnc client remote desktop, everything goes well. I even install Win7 SP1. After that, I reboot debian(openmediavalut) many times and connect Win7 via realvnc without any error.

Things happened when I used openmediavault management interface to change my host ip from 192.168.1.132(dhcp) to 192.168.1.210(static ip). I noticed that VM Win7 remote desktop can no longer be connected to via realvnc even I use windows embedded remote desktop (port 3389), that also doesn't work any more.

I tried many time to switch back to DHCP, but still cannot go back original state ( use dhcp and realvnc can connect Win7 VM ). It just cannot connect any more. That seems a big bug here.

    please help ! ?(

Is it possible to run a virtual machine (debian 64bit) with openmediavault and install extras (virtualbox), and then from there, install a windows xp, 10 ... etc.

My PC has the following settings:

    1. Intel i7 (4 cores / 32GMB RAM) with BIOS Virtualization ==> Enable
    2. Install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit as host operating system
    3. Install Virtualbox windows version
    4. create a vm and install openmediavault download from this site
    5. inside openmediavault, install extras virtualbox package
    6. enable virtualbox package

everything goes well to step 6.

    7. upload a windows_xp.iso
    8. use phpvirtualbox web ui to create a vm and install windows xp. I finished all windows xp installation steps from VNC GUI, but after first reboot, I cannot start this windows xp and keep seeing windows xp VM memory dump (blue screen) really fast and switch back to boot from windows black white screen to ask me to make choose after every 30 seconds.

I even disable all semi-virtualization from system => speedup selection items, / disable network / disable audio / disable usb / disable com port , but still get the same result.

does anyone have this experience of what I have done?
The reason why i do nest installation is trying to create a VM w/openmediavault that can hold more vm inside it body and can move anywhere within one .vdi file.

    Any idea ?

finally, I got a solution from PM ( ryecoaaron ). This actually is a bug, and he already provided a solution at here. I can use vnc instread of phpVirtualBox console !

    Hi Flmaxey,

Thanks for feed back. here is my .rdp download. The Remote Display shows (127.0.0.1:9000) which is not connectable. My openmediavault is installed in a debain 64-bit OS ip address is 192.168.1.131. Therefore, I modified rdp to the follow, but still cannot run. Which software you used to run this RDP file ?

    == Windows10.rdp ==
    full address:s:192.168.1.131:9001
    compression:i:1
    displayconnectionbar:i:1
    protocol:i:4

after that you say click it? Which software will run this .rdp file ? can you tell me software name? maybe I need to install rdp tool on my pc.

I meet issue on OMV 4.X.

phpvirtualbox small preview box can see vm is running, but CONSOLE tab cannot see anything. I test it with Chrome, Firefox, IE, IE edge. Nothing work.
Besides, I can use realvnc to connect to vm (192.168.1.131:9001) without error, but no images show up and show all black on realvnc screen. At this time, keyboard is working. I can type in something and see it from small preview box although preview is really small.

With this tiny small preview window, no one can really install anything on it !!

It seems nobody wants to handle it. ?(

I saw a lot of same issues reported starting from 3.x, 4.x, and also 5.x

This is just a 32/64 bit issues. There are another issue I still have problem.

Such as I logined into phpVirtualBox web management interface ( http://192.168.1.131/virtualbox/ ), and tried to install a new virtual machine, after put windows_xp.iso and start VM, I saw a small window showed up this vm (on right-up corner) was running and asked me to start to format this disk. I cannot connect to this vm. I used vnc tried to connect to this running installation vm without luck.

GUI mouse point and it showed vnc://127.0.0.1:9000 (this vm network using NAT), how can I connect console or gui to this new installing vm ?

I tried to use VNC to 192.168.1.131:9000 (openmediavault host ip) too. Also not working !

Switch network to HOST BRIDGE NETWORK still not working for vnc connecting to console.

No keyboard and screen to allow me to finish windows xp installation.

Any idea of how to use vnc to connect to running vm image ?

    Hi Sir,

I login to phpVirtualBox interface and try to install new vm images, but "Create Virtual Machine" only has 32-bits dropdown list.
My PC board has 64 bit capabilities with Intel CPU. I also open Virtualization inside BIOS. My PC runs Win7 Ultimate 64-bits OS w/32MB RAM.

I used VirtualBox Windows version to setup openmediavualt debian (64-bits) image and run that images. Inside this images I installed virtualbox extras and I wanted to install a new virtualbox image inside this openmediavault extras package (virtualbox), everything went smoothly but why dropdown list only show 32-bits options ? I should expect to see 64-bits and 32-bits list, am I right ??

    Windows 7 Ultimate => Debian 9 (64-bits) => openmediavaults => extras => virtualbox extras => Create Virtual Machine => Version dropdown xxx 32-bits only ????

I just finished a clean installation debian 9.6.0 OS w/openmediavualt extras virtualbox. After that I click on phpVirtualbox web ui and tried to use default 'admin' and 'password' to login without any luck.

    any help here ?

virtualbox web service is running with green light, but cannot login with default username and password.
