I haven't actually ever setup NC on OMV, so for more detailed advice others might be more helpful. And/or might correct me...

You don't use NC? How do you sync your stuff with your computers/mobiles? Or no sync at all?

Put a 2TB Crucial MX 500 SSD in the Zotac.
Upgrade the Zotac to 8 GB.
Put a 12TB HDD in the HC2.
Buy a USB3 HDD dock.
Install OMV on both the Zotac and the HC2.
Install NC as a docker image on the Zotac.
Use the HC2 as backup and storage for the Zotac. Also Emby media server and perhaps pi-hole.
Use the old HDDs for backups of the HC2 and the Zotac using the USB3 HDD dock attached to the Zotac.
That's the way I want to go.
I assume you are talking about the root fs. I would expect that you could use a SD card, a M.2. MSATA SSD, a USB thumbdrive or a USB HDD.
I mean, that If I put a 2TB SSD into the Zotac that's the only HD within the Zotac and as I know the OMV system must be on a separate HD (SD Card, etc...) - so that's what I meant.
How to configure the Zotac to use it as a OMV/Nextcloud system concerning disks.

I want to use it solely within my network. Access from outside only via VPN.

Nextcloud does have an app with sync for that. Maybe there are other alternatives? So that I only need OMV?
Or is Nextcloud the way to go with OMV.

after a long break I want to start again with my home NAS/cloud.
I have a lot of data which I want to have available, but also want to sync my computer-data (Wife, daughter, myself) via a cloud (should be better than NAS only).
We want to sync Win PC/Mac, iOS devices, Notebook.
I do have two devices and several Harddisks/SD-Cards.
Device 1: Odroid HC2 (with a 4TB WD Red HDD)
Device 2: Zotac nano CI327
So what would be the best way to go? What would you do?
- Installing OMV on HC2 or on Zotac nano?
- Installing a Nextcloud additional to OMV?

It doesn't work that way here. I have update notifications enabled but don't get any update notifications. I also have some of other notifications enabled and those do send notifications.
Same situation for my. Don't get any update notifications. That's it. Even after several weeks.
But that Github-issue doesn't look at the overall problem...: No notifications for general updates.
Just logged in into the WebGUI and found, that there have been a bunch of update available - but I didn't get any notification 
So remove and disable is the best way for a HC2?
Ok thx. And within OMV-Web-GUI I have to disable the backports inside OMV-Extras, right?
Remove the backports line from /etc/apt/sources.list. It was improperly added to the arm images.
Also getting the warnings... Is it save to remove backports, when using an Odroid HC2?
Or do I sometimes have to put them back into the list? Why don't I need them with a HC2?
I also had to reboot that the plugin does work (HC2)
Would be a nice addon (some popup like: you have to restart,.... )

as a novice I do have two questions.
1. after activation the mail-notifications I thought, that when an update appears I will get a notification, that an update is available (with the last debian update, there has been no notification)??
2. As I'm not an linux expert I don't really know, when I have to restart the OMV-System or not? Sometimes I actually need to make a restart after installing updates, sometimes not... A notification pop-up would be cool to know, that the changes only take effect when rebooting....
So why does OMV is having this feature. And why isn’t it showing green inside the GUI?

Why should I use linuxserver.io/nextcloud and mariadb instead of the original paths within docker? Is there any difference?
