    Which thread? You linked the complete forum.

    Sorry - it was this thread: issue while upgrading from 5 to 6

    I the meantime I was able to successfully upgrade to OMV6.

    The issue was that when I've started the upgrade my

    /etc/apt/sources.list file already had the sources for Debian 11

    So I've removed them added these 2 lines and ran the upgrade again from scratch and it worked.

    deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ buster main

    deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian/ buster main

    Can you confirm that once on OMV6 / Debian 11 you only need these 2 sources?

    deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main

    deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main

    What I did in the meantime was installing/upgrading grub-pc by running sudo apt --only-upgrade install grub-pc.

    This is done before running omv-upgrade or omv-release-upgrade

    This seems to fix my grub issue. I can even reboot.

    1. When I then run omv-upgrade it's finishing ok but the omv* commands are missing (i.e. I can't execute omv-release-upgrade) . Why is this?

    2. When I run omv-release-upgrade directly (without running omv-upgrade before) it's giving me following output

    Comparing this output with https://github.com/openmediava…/sbin/omv-release-upgrade

    makes me think that omv-release-upgrade does not finsh the post-upgrade scripts. It also seems that the script can't find omv-salt.
    Actually I can't find any omv* commands under /usr/sbin.

    Why is this? Can anyone help please ?

    Also when I try to reboot the system OMV is not starting up correctly:

    what happens if you run apt update after you fixed grub-pc after the omv-release-upgrade?

    apt update returns this:

    apt list --upgradable returns following packages

    thanks for your help, much appreciated.

    I have a backup/snapshot. So I've followed the guide again.

    Step 5.1 is ok

    Step 5.2 is giving me exactely the same issue around grub-pc as when running omv-release-upgrade. Also all the omv-* commands are "gone" after that error.

    Code
    Installing for i386-pc platform.
    grub-install: error: unable to identify a filesystem in hostdisk//dev/sda; safety check
    You must correct your GRUB install devices before proceeding:

      DEBIAN_FRONTEND=dialog dpkg --configure grub-pc
      dpkg --configure -a
    dpkg: error processing package grub-pc (--configure):
     installed grub-pc package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit statu

    Any idea what is wrong with my grub-pc installation? I guess I have to fix this before running omv-upgrade and omv-release-upgrade ?

    Thanks

    Yes. If sda is the correct drive, we cannot know.

    Actually sda is the wrong drive. Not sure why the installers wants to install grub-pc there. Sda is one of my 3 data drives. I guess I need to install it on sdd and sdd1

    After doing this I get following message/error though:

    Check if you are already on Debian 11 and OMV6.

    After omv-release-upgrade stops I'm still on OMV5.6 but on Debian 11 when running following checks

    dpkg -l | grep openmediavault

    Code
    rc openmediavault 5.6.26-1 all openmediavault - The open network attached storage solution

    rc openmediavault-omvextrasorg 5.6.6 all OMV-Extras.org Package Repositories for OpenMediaVault

    cat /etc/debian_version

    Code
    11.5

    Hi

    When using omv-release-upgrade I'm facing my next issue which relates to grub-pc

    Should running this fix my issue? I've done that and selected dev/sda.

    Code
    DEBIAN_FRONTEND=dialog dpkg --configure grub-pc

      dpkg --configure -a

    But how do I now rerun omv-release-upgrade? At that stage he comand isn't known anymore?

    many thanks

    Hi

    I'm trying to upgrade from OMV5 to OMV6 using following steps:

    sudo omv-salt stage run deploy

    sudo omv-upgrade

    sudo omv-release-upgrade

    I've also uninstalled all plugins on OMV5

    When running omv-release-upgrade I get this error. There seems to be a problem around proftpd

    More details:

    Code
    Executing: /lib/systemd/systemd-sysv-install enable proftpd
    Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/proftpd.service -> /lib/systemd/system/proftpd.service.
    Job for proftpd.service failed because the control process exited with error code.
    See "systemctl status proftpd.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

    systemctl status proftpd.service returns

    I've tried to search for 'mod_vroot.c' in this Forum but couldn't find any helpful information. Also I have never used FTP on my OMV5 instance.

    Any ideas how I can solve this issue?

    dleidert / all,

    I've now upgraded my live OMV 4 system using your 4.6 scripts and ran into following issue.

    I can login to OMV where is see the message "The configuration has been changed. You must apply the changes in order for them to take effect." in the yellow banner.

    Whenever I click on APPLY I get following error message :( Does somebody understand what this error message is about?

    Code
    {"response":null,"error":{"code":0,"message":"","trace":"OMV\\ExecException: Failed to execute command 'export PATH=\/bin:\/sbin:\/usr\/bin:\/usr\/sbin:\/usr\/local\/bin:\/usr\/local\/sbin; export LANG=C.UTF-8; omv-salt deploy run --no-color rsync 2>&1' with exit code '1': omv.local:\n----------\n          ID: prereq_rsync_certificates\n    Function: salt.state\n      Result: True\n

    The error message is too long to be posted - so find it as text file here :ErrorMessageApply.txt

    I've also attached the log file from your update scripts.

    omv_release_upgrade_to_buster.2021-01-08-235830.log.txt

    EDIT: I found the solution myself. I had to remove a dodgy/invalid Remote Share. This left me with another issue - which was gone when I cleared the browser cache. So it's really a good idea to clear browser cache after the upgrade !!

    sudo apt-cache policy openmediavaul

    Alen the issue has been fixed in release 4.4 of the script. You should now be able to upgrade.

    dleidert you are star!!! I've restored the snapshot on my VM to pre-upgrade and ran the release 4.4 script and all went fine. My test system has been upgrade to v 5.5.21-1. Will do some testing now.

    Do you still need to content of /etc/apt/preferences.d/ for further analysis?

    vcdwelt I also had Plex/Duplicati/Rsync installed pre-upgrade - there are all gone now. Also Dockers is gone with all my dockers installed. This is more of a problem. Is this expected behaviour?

    Alen, I just noticed that #33 doesn't show the full resolver log, only the last lines.

    hopefully this is the full resolver log - seems like salt-minion is again the issue?

    sudo apt-cache policy salt-minion

    sudo apt-get install -u -d -o Debug::pkgProblemResolver=true salt-minion

    sudo apt-get install -u -d -o Debug::pkgProblemResolver=true salt-minion=3002.2+ds-1

    that's the output from all 3 commands:

    mhmm, ok. I'v installed all missing packages. But still geting this issue when trying to upgrade openmediavault+

    Alen , nope. Can you run the installation command (the second command) as well?

    sudo apt-get install -u -d -o Debug::pkgProblemResolver=true netplan.io

    sure. here we go:

    does this help/explain why it's not installed?
