    Thanks for the advice, you are correct the nginx webserver configuration is too much of a handful for me.

    Im not sure I follow your comments on name based webservers. I want to be able to access from outside my lan, i.e http://www.mydomain.com/owncloud. For other applications I have done this using a proxypass in my sites-enabled 'default' file. Perhaps I need to install by your original method and then try to add the proxypass in manually?

    Hello,

    I need owncloud. I have used it via the plugin in the past but found it too slow to be usable. Im therefore interested in this method without the plugin.

    As per this thread ownCloud - Best Practice?
    I installed from the plugin and copied the files;
    /etc/nginx/site-enabled/openmediavault-owncloud
    /etc/nginx/openmediavault-webgui.d/owncloud.conf
    /etc/php5/fpm/pool.d/openmediavault-owncloud.conf

    I note that the file;
    /etc/nginx/openmediavault-webgui.d/oc
    was not available, so I couldnt copy it.

    I then removed the plugin and replaced the files to there intended locations.

    I then installed OC8 as per this method, this seemed to go ok except for 1 x message;
    Your data directory and files are probably accessible from the internet because the .htaccess file does not work. . . .

    OK. When I try to access owncloud, it gives me the login prompt and then at directs to the following link;

    Code
    http://192.168.2.20/owncloud/index.php/apps/files/

    The webpage returns a 500 Internal Server Error.

    Inspection of the nginx error log shows the below, whilst the owncloud-error.log is empty.

    Quote

    2015/05/02 15:15:37 [error] 20111#0: *669 rewrite or internal redirection cycle while internally redirecting to "/index.html", client: 192.168.2.3, server: localhost, request: "GET /favicon.ico HTTP/1.1", host: "192.168.2.20", referrer: "http://192.168.2.20/owncloud/index.php/settings/admin?trustDomain=localhost"

    Im figuring the issue is an nginx configuration issue but its beyond my capabilities. Ive done a bit of googling, but have yet to unearth anything helpful.

    Does anyone have any ideas that may be useful?

    As an aside - if one is questioning why Im trying to use this method rather than the method in the post using the nginx plugin, the reason is because I need to access owncloud via www.mydomain/owncloud rather than www.mydomain:90 etc. . . . as my work locks down access via ports.

    Any assistance appreciated.

    A bit of history. I had a compiled from sources ffmpeg on my system (v1.9) prior to installing this plugin, to enable viewing previews in rutorrent. Upon installing this plugin I realised that I had 2 x conflicting ffmpeg’s on my system, so I removed the compiled from source version (make uninstall). I then had to supply a symlink from bin/ffmpeg --> /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg/20140716/ffmpeg to ensure everything worked.

    Until this morning I had minidlna working on my system, however I removed the minidlna plugin and complied the latest from source – reason = so I could apply a patch that would enable coverart to be shown on my Samsung TV. This didn’t work, all video files would not show.

    A quick google showed this to be a problem with ffmpeg.I then uninstalled the compiled version and tried to reinstall the minidlna plugin – however, I still have the same problem as I had with the compiled version. Cannot see the video files because of the ffmpeg issue.OK, I don’t use the mediabrowser plugin. So I removed both minidlna and mediabrowser plugins thinking that this would remove the ffmpeg from my system. It hasn’t, its still there.

    So. My question is. How do I remove the ffmpeg that this plugin has put on my system at /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg/20140716/ffmpeg?? I want to remove all ffmpeg’s from my system and just install minidlna. . . .

    Many thanks in advance.

    My issue was the cable. bought a cat6a cable and straight to 1000mbps - my torrents are now flying. BTW, I googled my other issue which was the tun0 speed showing as 10mbps. This is standard apparently, its a 'placeholder' as the local machine cannot obviously know the true speed of the VPN to which its connected.

    I have exactly the same on my N54L (100mb/s) - its not something I ever noticed before. I also need to investigate, can see that Im only getting 10mb/s through my tun0 interface which doesnt sound healthy. . .

    Im just updating this thread for OMV 1.0+, in-case it helps someone and in-case I need the this info in the future.

    Install the rolls-royce of torrent software using this thread / tutorial;
    http://lowendtalk.com/discussi…fect-leb-seedbox-solution
    I prefer to install rutorrent from SVN rather than downloading zip files, this makes updating easier in the future;
    https://code.google.com/p/rutorrent/wiki/GetFromSVN

    Below is a file to start at boot;

    Quote

    nano /etc/init.d/rtorrent
    sudo chmod +x /etc/init.d/rtorrent
    sudo update-rc.d rtorrent defaults
    sudo /etc/init.d/rtorrent start

    Im going to do a reinstall of my system, seeing as it is an upgraded system. It seems pretty much un-recoverable otherwise.

    To ease the pain, when I follow this guide;
    http://forums.openmediavault.o…-of-OpenMediaVault-1-0-X/
    I backup the config.xml. . . . what the guide doesnt say is at which stage to reinstate the backed-up config.xml? Do I do it after the fresh installation and will it then reinstate all my plugins etc? Or is it just a reference to assist in remembering your settings which you then have to re-input manually through the interface?

    Many thanks

    Hello,

    Well after using successfully for about a year I came home today and my system (HP Proliant N54L) had crashed. I rebooted but could not get in via ssh, the system was not showing up on the network. At this stage I was left with a grub rescue prompt, from which I could not rescue grub as the drive (ssd) could not be mounted. I then managed to restore grub using "Rescatux" as I had all sorts of trouble getting the drive to mount due to bad superblocks etc. Anyway, I finally got it to mount and reloaded grub, so now when I boot I am presented with the grub options.

    When I boot normally I get a message about i8042 controller not found and then I am left at a prompt which shows "(none) login:" No matter what I try to log in with I cannot login.

    I then boot in recovery mode and the system boots. However, when I try to run any commands I get a plethora of different errors, i.e. I cannot update the system, I cannot run omv-firstaid (usr/bin/omv-firstaid:32 cant open /etc/default/openmediavault) . . . everything I do just hits me with different errors, like I dont have permission or something, even though the commands are being run as root.

    Im not really sure what to do, I have been trying to fix all night and cannot get the system to do anything responsive.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks for the response. I had seen, read and played around with the ideas in your post but without success. I just had a bit of a play around again with to dig into the problem a bit further.

    I can specify 1 x server block, for example, shellinabox and get this to work. When I then specify another, for example, nzbget then nzbget will work but shellinabox will not. Looking at the logs leads me to believe that the server blocks Im specifying are conflicting with each other. I see error messages like;

    Code
    2014/10/12 16:31:59 [error] 4808#0: *4 open() "/var/www/shell" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 192.168.2.3, server: rutorrent, request: "GET /shell HTTP$l HTTP/1.1", host: "192.168.2.20"

    Which shows that the rutorrent server block is trying to resolve for http://mydomain/shell (i.e. shellinabox)???

    Here is the rutorrent server block (which is working) is there something I cant see in it that is specifying it to be a default for other server blocks?

    In my sites-enabled I have the following files; default, openmediavault-webgui, rutorrent, shell, nzbget. I can only get one of rutorrent, shell, nzbget to go at any given time. . . . i.e. I need to un-symlink rutorrent and nzbget to get shell to work etc.

    Very confused.

    Hello,

    I am trying to get nginx to work with shellinabox. I guess what I am really having trouble with is proxy_pass, such that when I enter the URL;

    Code
    http://mydomain/shell

    It loads the shellinabox page from port 4200. I used to have this working with Apache but cannot figure it out with Nginx.

    At present I have created a server block which I have been playing around with, but I havent been able to get any response from it;

    The reason I need this is because my office blocks port 6789 . . . . so I need to access it through the /shell sub URL if I want to access my CLI from work - which I don sometimes if things go wrong.

    Does anyone have a solution for this?
