I thought I was by using the built in update utility in OMV UI, it was only when I tried to update from 5 to 6 that I got any type of error leading me to ask questions. How would I have known that there was anything not working if I had not tried to update to 6? No errors no messages.
I only post the question so that either my awareness or developments to improve the process might help reduce this type of issue in the future
so if the updated process in #2 post is no longer the process, do we have a current functioning process to update from OMV 5 to OMV 6? Or is it that I need to update my extras plugin in OMV 5 beforei can update to 6?
I am getting an error when I try to run the sudo omv-release-upgrade command.

sorry i have been absent since reporting the mount issue back in March.
I came back to see what might have updated or instructions on fixing it because I noticed its been acting differently.
before when I noticed it wouldn't mount a drive when unlocking a drive, I noticed that if I unlocked a drive before the system finished booting up it would mount it. however that has recently changed. it doesn't matter when I unlock the drive it won't mount.
I'm not sure if this will be useful, but I am running OMV 5.5.16-1 (fully updated), the drive is a RAID 6 formatted in ext4
if there is any other information you need or anything you want me to try please let me know.
no solutions from anyone?
I'm having an issue where my Rsync is running (doing a remote pull) and theconnection to the source is lost momentarily. the rsync connection dies but doesn't get an exit code and just hangs with no message or warning .
trying to restart the Rsync just returns an error. currently the only solution I have is to reboot OMV and then restart the Rsync.
any help with being able to close the connection and restarting it without rebooting would be a great help. making it automated would be best
My understanding is that after unlocking the encryption whatever was unlocked is auto mounted, if my understanding is correct OMV 5 either broke that or I have an issue that I need to resolve.
can anyone verify this form me
