Now I have tried again the fix script. I was able to select and install the “md” plugin after the reboot.
The disks are displayed as mirrors under “Multiple Devices”.
But where can I see which RAID it should be?
I thought that the upgrade from 6 to 7 could take place today on the side. At least the last upgrade from 5 to 6 went without a hitch. But unfortunately it's different here.
I have run “openmediavault-release-ugrade”. In order to be able to continue using my RAID1, I am supposed to install “openmediavault-md”. But I can't find this in the extension list in the OMV system.
Also this “fix6to7upgrade” script did not work.
After the uprade I rebooted my system.
What can I do now?
I can see the hard disks in the overview. But the RAID1 is not displayed.
Who can help me please?
Display MoreNot sure what you mean with this.
What you could do, is do the upgrade to OMV7. No need to remove the data drives.
Then use omv-regen to create a backup.
Do a fresh installation of OMV7.
Use omv-regen to restore.
But why do you want a "pure" installation?
"Pure installation" is maybe a wrong word for this. I do not know any word to explain in english. But that's not so important to me now.
I also have read about omv-regen and the way you told me here I wanna do. That is the way i have also thought about it.
What about RAID1? Do I have to pay attention to anything?
I still have OMV6 installed. I would like to upgrade to OMV7.
But since I want to completely renew the SSD on which OMV is installed and then have a pure installation of OMV7, my upgrade plan could look like this:
1. backup of the OMV6 system
2. backup of the containers and portainer
3. temporary removal of the data hard disks
4. upgrade to OMV7
5. if everything has worked, then backup the OMV7 system
6. reinstall OMV7 on the SSD
7. then import the backup of OMV7
Can I do it this way?
Are there any comments or further ideas?
I know that this topic has already been discussed several times. But I can't really figure it out.
I would like to back up my two data hard disks (RAID 1) to a 3TB NAS hard disk or make a backup of the data.
I think that I have to mount the third hard disk, which serves as a backup, in OMV beforehand. Can I then format the disk and use it as a backup disk? Does it make sense to format the disk in the same file format (e.g. EXT4)?
What is the best method? What do I need to bear in mind?
Please help. Many thanks in advance!
I would like a complete reinstallation of OMV 7 on my NAS.
What do I need to do with the two hard drives that are stored in OMV6 via RAID 1?
Can I somehow save the system settings and transfer them to OMV7?
This is not about an upgrade, as is described many times. I would like to completely reinstall everything.
Hello,
I currently use the "Shutdown" command when no device is moving in my network and the server should then go to sleep. When I need the server, I wake it up via WLAN and a WOL command.
What is the difference to the other commands in Autoshutdown Plugin? (Hibernate, Suspend, Hybrid sleep, Suspend then Hibernate)
Hi there,
after researching I found out that my local network was the problem. I am using Devolo Dlan adapters to connect some network devices. My DSL router stopped the conection and I had to reboot the dlan network. Now I can work with OMV6 & Co.!
Reinstalling seems like a last resort. If you cannot connect to your OMV6 system via ssh, can you at least ping OMV6? Assuming there's no firewall to block a ping response, and the ping packets are not all dropped, do a port scan to see if there any services running on your OMV6 box? If OMV6 appears totally unresponsive/inactive then it's time to get to the OMV6 console directly to diagnose the problem. I'm guessing you can only do that with a monitor and keyboard attached to your OMV6 system.
Thanks a lot for your answer. What is about the RAID1 data storages, if I have to install the system new to the OMV storage disk?
I tried today to get to my OMV6 interface. This failed every time after starting the server. I also could not get to my Docker containers. Per SSH also nothing goes straight.
Yesterday I installed Syncthing as a container.
This morning the connection worked for a little while until it abruptly stopped and then the connection to the entire server was gone.
I can wake up the server via WOL.
How can I still try to reconnect?
Or do I have to reinstall everything now? If so, what do I have to pay attention to?
You can use clonezilla to backup only the partitions you are interested in.
But you should find out what these 82 GB are. And if you don't need them, just delete them.
Thank you for the help to all. The upgrade was successfull.
How can I find out what these 82 GB are?
Yes it is strange these 82 GB. What can I do to backup only OS data and not all of these strange data?
Thank you for the information.
I would like to make an OS backup.
I would use my USB stick for this. But it only has about 60 GB of free space.
Via SSH I have seen via lsblk that the total OS data is about 111 GB. There are several partitions. Which one is the most important and must be backed up? Is it really advisable to back up the whole 111 GB?

├─sdb3 8:19 0 977M 0 part [SWAP]

Can I also attach an existing external hard drive? What do I have to consider then?
If I do the upgrade process with the scripts about SSH, what is about the Debian version. Now I have installed version 10 (OMV5). How to install Debian 11, which is necessary for OMV6?
Hello Forum,
I still have OMV5 installed. I would like to change to OMV6.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to proceed first and what I have to consider. I would separate the data hard disks from the hardware and then on the hard disk on which the OMV system is installed, then upload the data.
I use RAID1. In addition, I have installed various containers (e.g. Emby Mediaserver or Cloudcommander) via Portainer, which I would also like to use under OMV6.
Are there any instructions for this? Or can someone help me here?
Thank you very much for your support.
Hi at all,
I have to "reopen" this topic.
I try to use SONOS with my OMV5 Music Shared Folder. I made the following:
Created a shared folder "music". Privileges: Useraccounts Guest, smb and Sonos have read/write. ACL: User Group permissions: Guest, SMB, Sonos Read/Write. Extra Options Group Guest "Read/Write".
SMB/CFIS Settings: Settings - Advanced Settings - Extra Options:
client min protocol=NT1
ntlm auth=yes
Now tried to add my music folder to Sonos:
\\192.168.178.45\music
Sonos App told me that the access denied to add it. I have no username or password.
I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Please help!
Today I did an update of OMV 5, which also included other packages. The update first started normally as usual. However, at some point the following message came up again and again in a continuous loop:
"Failed to open file (filename=/tmp/bgstatusLMRNBo,mode=r)."
The screenshot of my smartphone also shows this.
I closed the window after a while. However, I have a suspicion that the update is now causing problems.
The system no longer goes into sleep/standby.
I still wanted to renew Portainer via OMV Extras/Docker, this did not work either. Portainer is currently not accessible.
What can I do to make sure the system gets the updates it needs? And what can I do to get it working normally again?
What can I do with the Portainer update?
Please help!
I want try it out in the next time.
Hello to all,
I hope I am writing in the right section of the forum.
I have my home server with OMV5. Portainer is also running there and various containers are already controlled there. I also manage the "Emby" media server there.
For the home server I use the plugin "Autoshutdown" to shut down the server and not leave it on 24/7.
However, this is not really well set up. For example, if I open Portainer myself and enter and edit something in it, the server may shut down before I have finished in Portainer.
In the meantime, I seem to have been able to set it so that when I watch a film via Emby, the server does not shut down. However, if I'm only logged in like this and I'm looking at pictures in Emby, for example, then the computer shuts down.
So far I have tried to specify the port numbers of the containers (e.g. 8096 for Emby) in the sockets for "Autoshutdown", because I thought that this would help against the shutdown and I could then work until there was no activity.
I have posted the "Autoshutdown" settings as picture attachments here so that you can see how it is currently set. (The pictures show German script, but should be comprehensible).
What other settings can I make or change so that the server does not shut down when working in Portainer or viewing images in Emby?
