I didn't explain myself very well, as i can't login to the web gui, i'm sure i need to install a fresh copy of omv, so i'm thinking i need to install the same version as the backup was created from. or can i restore from terminal? i can access my omv rig from putty.

Just remembered i have a backup using the backup feature, i'll have to search for a guide on how to restore the backup.
I have another issue, i'm sure i was on kralizec, version 1. do i need to find that version and download it to restore or can i use version 1.9?
    Sorry for all the questions.

Hi Everyone, I need a little help and hoping i can provide enough info to get this fixed.
I'm running Kralizec and all has been great.
What i did was not login for a few weeks as it's been running great and serving all my needs. well last night i logged in to the web gui and saw a i had alot of updates. so i tried to update and it would just hang while reading dependencies. so i then started updating things one at a time, after about 3 hours i was done to just a few more updates. i was on a font update and after it ran i was presented with the words click to install. there was nothing to click on so i refreshed the page and then lost the connection to omv.
Now all connections were lost even network shares were gone, so i tried putty and was able to login from putty. so from putty i ran apt-get update, i ran with no errors, from putty i rebooted. i now have all my shares working and deluge is working but i'm unable to login to the web gui. i cleaned browser info thinking it was a nginx issue. but i'm still not able to load the web gui, i then tried firefox andf still no web gui the error in both browsers is unable to connect.

Can someone lead me to my next step and figuring this out, i'm thinking i have corrupted font and the web gui won't load? i'm guessing.

    Thanks

    thanks guy's for the reply's.
    at this point i have only changed my php.ini too;

; PHP's default character set is set to empty.
    ; php.net/default-charset
    default_charset = "UTF-8"

I'll report back if i have an issue.

I should have read this first (relating to other post about owncloud 8),
I updated a few days ago. i don't log in to omv but a few times a month. i saw the update to owncloud 8 and updated, all is well so far but i do have two concerns.
one is a mention about using SQLite lite here's the message

SQLite is used as database. For larger installations we recommend to switch to a different database backend.Especially when using the desktop client for file syncing the use of SQLite is discouraged.
To migrate to another database use the command line tool: 'occ db:convert-type'The

    Other message is

PHP charset is not set to UTF-8. This can cause major issues with non-ASCII characters in file names. We highly recommend to change the value of 'default_charset' php.ini to 'UTF-8'.

Should i worry? Does anyone know what i could do to fix both issue's?
I'm not the best so i would need the full commands to fix if that is needed.
    Thanks
    ev

    Hi to all,

    I need some help,
I have omv 1.1 running ok.
I also set up owncloud and its running ok.
but while i was setting up owncloud i thought i needed to setup the privileges and acl (ok i know i should have read first but i didn't, i tend to jump and then look, LOL)
so at this point i lost the ability to login to my movie shares as guest. you need to login with a user name and password. not good for my HTPC, or android phones.
i have tried toggling smb, i also tried re saving the rights in smb settings to no avail. i did reboot in between to make sure it was fresh.
so my question is how do i reset the rights to thier defaults and start over?

Followed this guide, and still get the same error when i check for updates.

When i followed that guide and did shift insert, it added the new lines to the config. nothing changed i still got the error.
so i then used United States as my country and removed all other sources in my config, is this a bad thing?

also i ran cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.bak to back up my config, how do i restore if i have messed it up?
    Thanks

It is still set to manual in your interfaces file. Try:

updated to omv 1.9, rebooted and same error comes back when i check for updates.

    omv-mkconf interfaces

    Code
    Done

Then post the interfaces file again:

    cat /etc/network/interfaces

The only problem your system is having is resolving domain names. Incoming connections and outgoing connections using IP addresses should still work. What is the output of:

    cat /etc/network/interfaces

    cat /etc/resolv.conf

    Code
    # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
    # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
    nameserver 192.168.144.1
    nameserver 8.8.8.8

no it's not blocked, owncloud and deluge are both working outside my network.
I just ssh into the machine and tried ping it's working fine no packet lose. i pinged router ip 192.168.1.1, i pinged 208.67.222.222.
i also pinged the omv box from a computer in my network and it was good no packet loss.
Not sure what changed as i have changed nothing, updated omv about 2 weeks ago.

if i go to the network tab and then interfaces and hit identify i get an error as well.
not sure if this is relevent?

    Thanks ryecoarron for the help.
I changed my network to static and entered my router ip as the dns, still get the same error.
i rebooted the computer to make sure the settings changed.
not sure what to do next?
how did you know it was a dns issue from my error message?

second part of the error message. it was to long for one post.
