I am using omv6 virtualized in proxmox for almost a year and before that I had been using 5 for 2 years, and there has always been something that had me pensive and almost uncomfortable and that is that the ram memory in omv is low by 16-20%, however, if I do a htop and in the proxmox dashboard it always shows 90%

    https://forum.openmediavault.org/wsc/index.php?attachment/26510-image-79-png/

And it's because the cache memory is always up and I don't understand why before in my omv it showed 20% and in htop it showed 20% and everywhere it showed 20%... well... I had already posted the same thing in my thread former

And everyone told me that I was fine and that I shouldn't worry and blah blah blah, however, I was never comfortable or calm because it is obvious that if they say that something is at 90% use it is because something is wrong...

checking my other virtualized machines I discovered a command that showed me something strange in my OMV

However, I do have a 4gb swap partition that created it when I installed my OMV for the 1st time and that apparently is not using it...

I don't have swap partition or swapfile...

    is that ok?

Is that the reason why the data in my memory is rare?

    should i create a swapfile?

    hi

now im upgrade to OMV6 and I still maintain the same situation..

    Last week I made another vm with OMV6 with 2gb ram again but I see that this cache memory situation is not like that, it behaves as it normally does, which is 'normal' at least from what I'm used to seeing always;

i know that here toldme before that cache memory was good but... with all the time that has passed and now with the new installations that I have done I see that contrary to that, and I would like to know if anyone else has had this happen to him or is this happening?

I have read to many OMV users that, like me, one day their sda system disk began to run out of space and despite increasing the space in proxmox, that space is not reflected in OMV

So I made this guide of what has always worked for me hoping that someone will help and at the same time can help me to be able to do the same from the console

increase the disk from 25gb to 40gb in proxmox and the change is immediately reflected in omv

however, in the image it can be seen that despite the fact that the disk is now 40, the partition is still 25gb (or rather 24gb)

The next thing I did was see the partitions and since I am not much or hardly at all console or commands, install the kernel plugin and then install the gparted iso to be able to enter gparted from grub and graphically see the omv partitions

inside gparted i saw the problem

the only way to put the swap partition at the end and thus be able to use the 15gb space that I added on the disk in proxmox (unallocated) was, 1 by deleting the swap partition and extended partition and creating them again at the end of the free (unallocated) space for later extend the sda partition to all free space (unallocated) leaving the end like this

in the end just reboot into the correct system and voila! the 25gb partition is now 40gb,

I should notice that now this always appears at the start

However, it has not affected the operation of omv at all, I imagine that it is due to something that is corrupted when editing the partitions manually, but it is the only way I have found to increase the omv sda partition in proxmox, so if anyone knows how eliminate this error or how to increase the sda partition without doing so much explaining it to be able to recreate it

    final results

ok now it works, the problem I have is that for some reason in my production omv GPARTED DOES NOT RUN, it gives an error when choosing it in grub and it only stays in the middle of the operation as 'loading' and never opens gparted for I haven't been able to do that in my production OMV because I don't know of any other way to do it...

If someone knows or can help me on how to fix the partitions through the console without having to enter graphically through gparted to do this, I would add it because the sda partition of my production OMV is currently at 89%, I would greatly appreciate it really!

I hope this guide will help people

I am having the same problem, my sda1 disk is 20gb in my proxmox and in my omv and I increased it to 25gb in proxmox but in my omv that change is not reflected... that is... if you see that the disk increase from 20 to 25gb but in the sda partition it only recognizes the 1st 20gb...

I thought I could fix it by going into installing the gparted kernel and look inside to see what happens and extend the new space to the sda partition but... on omv6 I get an error installing the gparted kernel and extend the new space to the sda partition but... in omv6 I get an error installing the gparted kernel

    EDITED WITH NEW INFO

    sorry but all change...

apparently when installing the gparted kernel something went wrong because now when restarting the grub yes window appears

but when omv6 is started, I can enter through the web interface and through ssh, but in the proxmox console, only this black console appears.
    a>

and it never gets to show the entire console to enter the credentials, but I repeat yes, it is working, through ssh, through the web interface, I can access all my disks and folders, but in proxmox the console does not work

and if I try to enter gparted this screen appears and it never loads anything
    a>

hello, I have omv on my proxmox server with a 20gb sda disk and these days I have changed by moving and deleting many files from my storage disks (sdb, sdd, sdc) and I have seen that the root disk space of my omv has decreased (I imagine some kind of cache or something, I don't know)

but in my proxmox I increased the root disk space (sda) by 5gb more but I have not seen that change in my omv5 and now updated to omv6...

I have done an lsblk and it appears that it has 25gb in total but that the sda1 only uses 20gb of which there is only 1.30gb of free space...

so i thought i could install the gparted kernel and from there see the partitions and extend the new space to the omv6 partition, so install the kernel plugin and then install gparted and reboot to get into gparted but now it just shows up

Could someone help me today has been very hard because by mistake I installed omv6 in my production omv instead of doing it in my test omv :(

GOD!! TODAY I AM COMPLETELY SCARED

It turns out that I have omv5 on my proxmox server without problems and I have 4 disks, 2 sata and 2 usb connected and mounted in FNS and SAMBA with my omv5 that I share with my lxc containers and other vm besides my internal network and to see how This version worked and if this update could work, I made a new vm in my proxmox and installed another omv5 to do this update...

in the new omv5 (TEST) install several plugins and dockers I started to run the whole guide to update to omv6 and when I was executing the 3rd step of the sudo omv-release-upgrade guide, I realized that I was executing the steps in my production omv5!

GOD I put colors and I resigned myself to having to reinstall everything... I had a backup that I made of the system but on other occasions that backup did not help me at all having to redo everything...

thank god it seems that everything is up and running and running the latest omv-upgrade on the console

I recommend to anyone who reads this to never commit a case of such nonsense as mine and check again and again where you are working before regretting any damage or loss or whatever

    (adding more actual info)

the only problem that I have found is that for some reason in the dashboard there seems to be a problem with showing the memory and the system information

also I already had little space on the sda1 disk (2gb) and now the space even less (1.xgb) and I was going to ask this part in another thread but since I'm here I hope you can understand the need for help... If someone knows in my nextmox I have increased the space from 20 to 25GB, however in omv that change of additional 5gb does not appear... I had thought to install gparted in grub and run it to expand the partition manually from there but now that I mistakenly updated to 6, I wonder if that would be a clear solution... as long as I can install gparted to run it from grub as in omv5

Thanks and I hope this post helps someone who is about to commit a suicide like mine, thank God and the person who made the guide and commands that work so well...

I have been using omv5 for 2 years and a few weeks ago I installed my proxmox server and the first thing I installed was omv5 in a vm with 2gb of ram and I began to notice that the ram memory of my vm with proxmox OMV rose to 'heaven' every time I transferred data to my omv and it stays up without going down until I restarted the omv, this has seemed very strange to me and that is why I decided to increase the ram memory from 2 to 3gb but when making a transfer the use of the graph memory ram went up again in my proxmox up to more than 90% without going down until just restarting the omv.

however when i open my omv it is seen that it is not using that amount of ram

but when viewing the dashboard data it is seen that there is excessive use of the page cache

the use of ram memory is also seen when doing an htop or top

This is the first time that it has happened to me, never before the use of ram memory had been so high and if it became high it would immediately go down once the transfer processes were finished.

do you have any idea about that?

Hello, I have my omv5 installed on my proxmox and it has always worked fine, now it installs omv6 but when it finishes installing the command line does not come up but if it loads the web, is it okay that it does not show you the command line?

That’s a pretty tall order. It all depends on what your docker path is and what “everything” involves.

Start out by shutting your server down and backing up your OS using this guide. There is a section for Windows, Mac or Linux.

thanks... but i coudnt wait and i just pray to the great elephant child asking him to keep me out of trouble with his big trunk and just install omv5 in my new machine...

and it worked without any problem 😅 now im configuratin all my dockers, but i will readit to know how to configure a permanent backup system

    Hi friends,

I want to change my OMV server to a different more powerful machine but I would like to make an image of my entire omv5 system with my dockers and all my omv configuration in case something goes wrong with the change of machine and return to the exact point before making the change.

on my new machine I will also install omv5 with the same configurations and data disks so I don't know if there is also a way to do another backup of just the omv5 configuration so I don't have to waste too much time on that either since it will be a different machine but the omv configurations will be the same, including the dockers

I have thought about using duplcati for the 1st image of the complete system but I am not sure how to do it, so if you could advise or point me to a tutorial I would greatly appreciate it since the ones I have found are different and confuse me more.

now for the 2nd task of a backup of the omv configuration I don't know what I could use to backup and restore it on the new machine

    thank you :)

    rebooted

When i try to enter portainer sio this error 1st time

but then i try to install i it was succefull

    now its downloading gparted

Seems to have been resolved thanks friend! It was the DNS when putting a static ip and leaving it blank the DNS as the instructions say it seems that something is going wrong, that when changing to DHCP (better placing a static ip in the router) OMV solves everything automatically and makes the problem is solved...

    thanks!!

Now I'm deciding whether to do a clean install again from 0 (for the 7th time) to avoid any mistakes I've made trying to fix it myself, now with the knowledge you've taught me and that I know how to configure it better or... leave it like that and ready
