OK, I understand. I'm at work too and this is very time consuming. I'm on it now.
Hopefully I'll get somewhere

Hi,
I'll have a go.
I guess there is no way of you remotely accessing my NAS?
If not, thank you very much for your time and patience.
Doesn't look good?
this was the result:

I also tried to uninstall the Plugin's as I believe they should be uninstalled for the upgrade to work?

Hi, all
I have not been able to update / upgrade my OMV installation for about 3 years (due to my wife and I having a baby 3 years ago!)
I realise from reading the forum I should of updated and upgraded my system regularly.
I cannot make any changes in my web interface - it just states an error when I save the configuration.
Using PuTTY i have tried to update the system but get errors; one being NO_PUBKEY EF9DBDC73B7D1A07
I have also found out that I should have pam_faillock.so on my system but I do not know how to put this on and I am not showing as having pam_tally2 when I check for what pam I have ( i hope I am making sense) I have bee trying to do this for hours through google searches and getting no where. I have cloned my hard drive.
I would do a fresh install; but I have PLEX running in the back ground (not through DOCKER) and don't want to "lose" it - I believe KM0201 helped me with this about 4 years ago - talked me through it), so I wouldn't be able to do it again on my own. Plus having a toddler gives me hardly any time!
Can anyone help please?
I have a Gigabyte GA-AM1M-S2H board
AMD Athlon 5150 16gb ram
Linux 5.1.0-0 deb10.16-amd64
Version 5.6.26-1 (Usul)
I'm not great at Linux, but am getting there.
PS: I love OMV it is great, I just need help please!
Thanks very much
Ok thanks again for the tips ![]()
Ok thanks guys, I will login as a user... is there any reason why it is not advisable to login as root through windows to access my files?
Also does this mean I should not go into the GUI for OMV signed in as the root too?
I don't use Windows, so I won't be much help here.. but seem to I recall reading there are some issues with Windows 10 and Guest SMB accounts.. are you trying to log in from Windows as a guest or as a user?
Yes I was just opening up the files through windows as I normally would, so as a guest I think. But it kept coming up with a windows box asking for a login, so I logged in as the root
Well I managed to access my shared files on my PC; but had to enter my user (root) and password on windows to access them for some reason.....
oh well probably a windows thing!![]()
Probably should have updated this last night.... He was just lost. We took it to PM and I walked him through it. His server is a little slow so not sure how well it's going to work for him, but as of last night it was scanning his media..
Yes used it watched a film on it yesterday through PLEX on my LG TV and works fine so far.
Although I can't seem to access my NAS folders through my windows 10 laptop. Hopefully not related. I have "reset permissions" on the file system.
I access the folders using SMB/CIFS anyway I'm working on it now...
Did you figure it out?
Sorry yes thank you; all sorted! KM0201 helped out.![]()
Type the command id followed by the user you want to find out PUID and PGID. Example for user "jack":
Thanks ![]()
I'm still trying lol
Display MoreOk, so instead of using a text file... do this.
Open Portainer
On the left, click on Stacks
Click Add
At the top name the stack to identify the stack (plex, would probably be good in this case)
Copy/paste the docker-compose file into the window and make all your necessary edits.. use your SSH window and the tutorial to get paths, PUID/PGID, etc..
When your'e all done, scroll down and click "Deploy Stack"
Thanks for your patience,
but I think I am going to have to abandon my efforts as I really am out of my depth, you'll probably think I'm thick but I i cannot see from the tutorial how to get the paths , puid /pgid.
I'm risking throwing the laptop on the floor lol, or maybe I'm just tired!
sorry to waste everyones time whos helped so far
Display MoreIt's possible... what was the output of the command ? (You can start another SSH session and check, or just save the file, run the command, then open it again.
Also.. you may find it easier to start your docker-compose files in a text file on your computer (I'm assuming you are SSH'ing the server with a laptop or PC)... follow the instructions, and make all your edits in the text file etc.. then when you are all done, paste the text file into a stack, name it, and deploy it. Or just use a stack instead of docker-compose.
Hi,
yes I'm using putty on my laptop to ssh the server,
thats a good idea to edit in a text file. I'll do that.
I have a user set up for docker / portainer just unsure where abouts i determine the user id and gid is this in the access rights management/ users?
