if you use the backup plugin you can log in remotely via SSH to the Clonezilla live image to backup a headless system. have a look at the instructions tab.

I like your symlinks pooling solution. Maybe you should copy/paste the procedure in guides subsection of this forum.

...not good...
check mhddfs (same plugin as aufs) and do some internet research on the topic. A lot of people report better stability from the combination Snapraid+mhddfs.
I'm using Snapraid and it works really well.

It is not hard to throw together a 2nd server when you have parts laying all around....
I agree. The cost of the disks is the only downside.
I wish somebody offered online backups with a more affordable seeded backup service.... -
I guess that the options are really limited. I've been looking at tape drives but the hardware is massively expensive even second hand (I'd be better off buying hard drives instead).
Online backup (unlimited storage space) are not an option due to upload times... seeded backups (crashplan style) are way overpriced.I guess that for now I'll have to live with Snapraid.

Hi Guys
I have been researching backup solutions for large amounts of data (say 10+TB) for “non critical” data i.e. movies, TV shows, music etc…
I currently backup critical data on a 2TB external hard drive as well as using Snapraid for my NAS. I believe that this is sufficient for the important stuff. The not-so-important things are only protected by Snapraid. I’m not really happy about this but I can’t really afford a lot of external hard drives to make a full copy of everything. What backup strategy do you use for your media collections?
Thanks

the database won't be deleted and if you select the same hard drive for the database location you won't need to rebuild it.
yes, install from OMV-WebUI.

I have two 6TB DATA drives and they work without problems. I have no experience with 8TB

As we learned the script from Hexcode seems to the better alternative.
Can pls somebody explain for a linux newbie how to implement it on a N40L .
On the N40L the fan is almost silent. the main fan cools down the hard drives and the CPU at the same time (there's no active cooling on the CPU)...why do you need to stop the fan? are you trying to save 1.5W of power?

It doesn't sound impossible. I would fill out the feature request to see what Volker thinks.
is the feature request form the same as the bug tracker?
-
would it be difficult to implement the IPtables rules that I indicated as a feature inOMV?
I would like to see a tab on the firewall section where it is possible to indicate the port number, the number of failed attempts before blocking and the time the IP address will be blocked for...I was thinking of filing a feature request but only if it's considerate as appropriate/doable...
thanks

Hi
you need to implement a set of rules for the Iptables as described herehttp://www.rackaid.com/blog/ho…-ssh-brute-force-attacks/
after a number of failed login attempts the attacking IP address will be blocked for a period of time.
I hope that this helpsFT

@ftriscari, shellinabox works for you? Perhaps it's me that I'm dammed.I haven't tried the shellinabox plugin yet...
-
I used to move things around with extplorer...I wasn't very happy with it.
once I started using MC from ssh I realized that it was all that I really needed for managing my NAS.I'll try the shellinabox+MC combination. I think it's hard to beat!

Basically, I want winscp in the browser.
I would be happy with midnight commander in a browser! -
Is your system working from a USB stick with the reduced writes? Are you going to report on the stability of your setup?
Before changing the title of the thread to “tutorial” you should at least run some trials and show that the described process produces a working/reliable system.
I really hope that you succeed with this. -
It's really interesting to see that in this forum it's possible to find post like this OMV to the nines (hinting at the use of OMV for production/enterprise use) and posts trying to use tweak the system so that USB keys can be used for the OS...
I wonder how many people using FreeNas in enterprise environment work with a USB stick for the OS. I don't think that many.instead of compromising the stability of the system would it not be better, faster, safer etc... to resize the OS partition so that you can use the OS drive for data as well as OMV?
I'm aware that this is not a good solution since a system drive failure=possible data loss and vice versa (and people should be advised against using this solution!) but for some people with little room for expansion it may be better than relying on a cheap USB device...? -
- a five banana pi cluster : 4 driving a single HDD and the fifth sharing the content of the others thanks to GlusterFS.5 banana pi plus SD cards may be more expensive than a small server e.g. HP microserver
...but I guess that a 5 banana pi cluster would be more fun!
