I was also having permission issues, and still do. I am working through those as we speak. OMV is a wonderful and powerful software and it is also build to support many different needs. With that in mind the permissions can get confusing and I found some settings seem to conflict others, or more then one way to setup permissions and it gets confusing. Especially a new user to OMV and Linux in general. I was not aware of the reset perms plugin so this thread helped me out in my quest of setting up OMV and maintaining the system.

Thank you macom.
I was able to get the drives online and working with that.
I can see how it would be useful and powerful to setup all the permissions and such, but if not done correctly it definitely leads to a headache.

I just want to have drives listed and anyone can use.
No matter what I setup, I always run into can't add, delete or move files. permission not allowed. seems once I got it working, the next day it doesn't work and i'm back to permission denied on any type of operation (moving or adding files) Also, I am running into not being able to log into the drives/shares.
go to windows or linux, go into the file manager (or whatever flavor its called for the week) click OMV, click the drive/share a popup says anonymous or registered user. put in user name a password. Nope, never worked once. click anonymous I assume OMV treats as a guest? ok I can see the drive/share but can't do anything with it. As far as I know, everything that has a option I set as open, guest, read/write.
One thing I wish OMV had, was a simple NAS setup. some of us just want a lot of storage and open drives to use on the network by anyone. Just click one option and done.
With that said, can someone direct me to the how to make all drives/shares just open and a free for all?

I see that, but at this point I have zero clue how to get started with this.
I go into portainer and there is SO much that is way over my head.
Yacht seems simpler but again, I'm not even sure how to go about that.
I have a feeling I may have to just set it up running on its own computer.

I have a question that if possible may kick off a lot more as time goes on. Let me start off saying I'm new to OMV and Linux.
What I'd like to do is run Synchronet in a Docker/Portainer along with OMV. (forgive me as I am learning the correct terms for all this as I go).
Trying to figure out how to go about this, the closest I can come up with is follow the PiHole setup steps, up till the point of installing the PiHole software itself but rather SBBS. In short its a BBS software that will allow Telnet, Webhosting, etc...
Has anyone ever ran Synchronet and if so will something like this work in the Docker/Portainer environment?.
Thanks in advance.
Here is the Wiki on SBBS for reference.

Don't delete threads... That's a huge ass pet peeve of mine as I think it's selfish. You never know if someone else has a similar problem and this thread may come up in a search and help them,.
Believe me, if your thread is cluttering the forum, you won't need to delete it.. we will.
Cool thanks that's good to know.

Now on to solving how get files on a defunct NetGear Stora, since flash is gone. the drivers and software are gone. EOL products are a pain.
I am loving OMV now that I have an understanding on how it works and setting it up.

I thought I did, but in fact it turned out that I didn't end up installing it correctly. So after entering the commands again and refreshing the browser everything is working correctly.
I was going to delete this thread as not to clutter the forum up, but got called to work and just got back in town.

Hello all.
New to this, and trying to learn OMV to use at home.
I did a fresh install with the latest version available off the website (made iso boot usb and install)
I see the plugins that are included but nothing else nor a way to see the extras. I can not search for anything in the plugin search and the check for updates don't seem to bring anything up.
I read the one thread about someone having the same issue, but it was from a upgrade not a fresh install. I did try to follow the command lines but no extras or changes in the plugin status.
Thoughts on how to check to see if its pointing to the correct repository? or how to set it to point in that direction?
Thanks for the help in advance.
